Established by the Organization of Islamic
Conference (OIC) in 1979 with its
headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The most poorly served IINA objectives is its
very first one - to consolidate and safeguard
the rich cultural heritage of Islam.
A significant limitation to IINA coverage,
from a Muslim perspective, is the relatively
low amount of Islamic News Content.

In The Light of Research
Muslims tend to be negatively framed, while Islam is dominantly
portrayed as a violent religion, shows a meta-analysis of articles
looking at media representations of Muslims and Islam. Saifuddin
Ahmed of the University of California and Jörg Matthes of the
University of Vienna did a meta-analysis of 345 published academic
studies between 2000 and 2015.
The quantitative part of the study looks at geographical focus, methods,
theories, authorship, media types, and time frames. The qualitative part
amplifies the most prominent research themes.
A large majority of studies covered Western countries, while Muslim
countries and Muslim media have been neglected. The authors also
show that there is a lack of research on visuals, online media and
comparative research. Most studies investigated the themes of
migration, terrorism and war. The authors conclude with the notion
that the depiction of Muslims in the media can have serious
implications for society and individuals.

REPRESENTATION OF ISLAM AND MUSLIMS ON
SOCIAL MEDIA: A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF FACEBOOK
Abstract:
This paper explores social media conversations about
Islam and Muslims through discourse analysis. The study
looks into Facebook about the representation of Islam
and Muslims. A discourse analysis of Facebook reveals
that people are changing their perceptions, attitudes and
opinions through the Facebook. Netizens like, comment
and share the material in accordance with their interests
and ideology. The study has found that Islam is the only
religion on social media which is being portrayed in a
negative fashion. The hot discourses we have found are
jihad, niqab, hijab, mosques, terrorism, which are the
most common discourses on Facebook.

Portrayal of Islam in Hollywood
Since the emergence of Hollywood as the
home of the U.S film industry, the various
films made over the years have stolen the
identity of numerous groups of people
including the Muslim community. However,
the consistency of negative Muslim
stereotypes has remained from the earliest
obscure Hollywood pictures to the most
recent blockbuster action films.
