delayed.
Laging HANDA!
ROLES OF FIRST AID
1. Serves a bridge that fills the gap between
the victim and the physician.
2. It is not intended to compete with or to
take place of the service of physician.
3. It ends when the services of the physician
begin.
OBJECTIVES OF FIRST AID
1. To save lives
2. To prolong life
3. To alleviate suffering
4. To prevent further injury
CHARACTERISTICS OF
GOOD FIRST AIDER
GENTLE – does not cause pain and panic
OBSERVANT – notices all signs
RESOURCEFUL – makes the best of the things at
hand
TACTFUL – does not frighten the victim’
SYMPATHETIC – comforts and reassures the victim
PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID
DOS IN GIVING FIRST AID DON’TS IN GIVING FIRST AID
o Do stay calm
o Do reassure and comfort the
victim
o Do check for medical bracelet
indicating a condition, such as
epilepsy or diabetes
o Do loosen any tight clothing
o Do keep the victim covered to
reduce shock
o Don’t give food and drink to
unconscious person
o Don’t move an injured person
unless you need to place
him/her in the recovery
position.
When a serious injury occurs, you have to
think and act quickly. Medical assistance may
be only minutes away, by sometimes seconds
count. What you do in those few seconds and
minutes can make the difference between life
and death. Quick, calm and correct action can
make all the difference.

2.If a person is bleeding, use a tourniquet (ex: rubber
band)
3.Signs of a heart attack includes shortness of

4.All burns can be treated with first aid alone; no
emergency medical attention is necessary.

o What is the ultimate goal in giving
first aid?
