Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract/ address your audience?
‘ Disconnected was aimed at a target audience( which is a group of people , to which the product may appeal to them) . Therefore my group and I agreed with the age we thought was suitable for the film which was 15 years and older so therefore we expect the certificate rating to be a 15 .
Our main target audience would be for people aged 20 – 40. We hope that the target audience will be interested within our film , to make sure its suitable for both male and female we have done the following ; For males - The Main Character is the Protagonist Realism ( could happen to you ) Family based Therefore with these 3 points in mind we hope that males that are family orientated will be interested in our film. For Females It’s a psychological thriller which may seem more appealing to a bloody thriller There is a child as character Family based In order to get a mixed gender target audience the group decided a psychological thriller would be different and more appropriate to both male and females. This would then also allow us to think of a creative opening whilst remembering the age content. With the use of the family we have set the age range to be to 40 as we feel the audience can relate to the characters as it is family orientated and breaks stereotypes which different genders may find interesting. As a group we understand that teenagers may not find our film appealing to them so even though the age consent may be lower we still are targeting adults aged 20 – 40.
Stereotypically it is seen that only males are more likely to view thrillers , How ever when getting people to fill in the questionnaire it showed that on average most females had seen at least 5 or more thrillers , suggesting that its not only men that watch thrillers therefore when producing the film it was important to keep in mind it had to attract both male and females.
Due to the age content , we needed to make sure we followed what was allowed to be in our opening but because of the sub genre within the thriller in our case it didn’t need to involve any gore or violence or scenes with sexual nature.
The opening of Disconnected begins with shots from the past before it enters the present it features a mother and a daughter harmlessly playing in the wood showing their relationship to be loving and caring , we want these few shots to cause enigmas allowing the audience to ask why is the film showing there relationship ? and make the audience want to watch more .
Within the opening you also see the relationship with the daughter and father, of which seems to be completely different this down to the no response the daughter gives the father when he is speaking to her it is only then when you realise something is wrong which raises enigmas to what may have caused this relationship to not be so strong.
