CMMI - Recognized certifications in Portugal

The importance of CMMI and SCRUM
Integrated Management System implemented
InnoWave Technologies has already an integrated
management system implemented using the
reference norms ISO 9001 (Quality) and NP 4457
(Innovation) which is applied to all processes across
the organization and described the existing
management processes in general, in the area of IT
solutions development, consulting and outsourcing.
However, even this certifications are recognized worldwide, our company felt the need to
implement a model that regulates our processes at a lower level, especially in
activities directly linked to our projects and products.

CMMI Model
The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is
published by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of
the Carnegie Mellon University.
Currently there are three CMMI models:

CMMI models provide guidance for developing or
improving processes that meet the business goals of an
organization.
CMMI model may also be used as a framework for
appraising the process maturity of the organization.
The implementation of the CMMI model will allow a
closer control of the processes but will also
require greater effort in recording information.
As a consequence of the this certification, InnoWave
is implementing tools as a project level, with
StrongStep consulting, that will allow a closer monitoring
of projects.

SCRUM is a pre-defined development lifecycle based on Agile
principles.
Do CMMI and SCRUM methodology fit together?
The SCRUM focuses on what is really important, considering only

the “how” of planning and running

Conclusions
 ISO 9001 is an important reference norm but
 CMMI and SCRUM show us how implementing tools to have a closer
monitoring of the projects.
 Only 21 portuguese companies are CMMI certified, so it is an important
highlight for us.
