Sõmeru Põhikool is a primary school located in Sõmeru, Estonia. Sõmeru is a village in northern Estonia with around 1,300 inhabitants. The school's earliest records date back to 1801, but it has occupied its current building since 1988. The school has around 189 students taught by 24 teachers. It offers a variety of extracurricular activities for students like singing, dancing, acting, and has participated in international projects with schools in Sweden, Latvia, Finland, Italy and others.

- 4. Sõmeru Sõmeru is big village in North-Estonia, situated nearby Tallinn – Narva highway. There are 1300 inhabitants in Sõmeru.

History of school The first notice about foundation of school in Sõmeru deriver’s form 19th century, which was report to the Consistory of Estonian Evangelical Lutherian Church of the Rakvere county Rev. A. N. Winkler in December 8th 1801. So far it is not known which the building was where children gathered or who teachers were during the next 62 years. Definitely researchers reach to the documents, which add more facts and information relating to this period. School started to work in Sõmeru, since 1863 it has been in Aluvere. In official documents it was named as Bauerschule unter Neu-Sommerhusen in Dorfe Allofer . Since the time of the Republic of Estonia Aluvere Primary School has been listed in the Viru County schools . During the times the name was changed a couple of times, but the name Sõmeru is back nowadays.
- 6. History of school The newest building of our school was built for 540 students in 1988. During last 5 years the building was totally renovated At the moment there are 24 teachers, 1 2 ensembles of classes and 189 students in Sõmeru Basic School.
