QUESTION 1
By cerys gratton
When first looking at looking at creating our film opening I looked at
different conventions that I could use, develop or challenge that other
thrillers had included in their own movie. When the initial influences
for the film opening began, I studied various films opening that I
thought we could have used some of the conventions that they
included in their own film.
The first movie that we looked at was the panic room. When analysing the
opening of the panic room I wanted to take a closer look at the music that
was used. The reason for this was because when I first watched this opening,
the ambience that this had created made me feel uncomfortable just
watching it. So I wanted to emulate this same feeling. That’s why we tried to
copy the same rhythm and feeling that we got after listening to every
version.
Secondly we also had a look at the film Kingsman. When watching the film,
we decided to incorporate the convention of flashbacks. Within the film they
included a flashback in order to explain why certain events where happening
throughout the film. We liked the idea but thought that the audience might
get confused or not grasp the idea that certain scenes were flashbacks. So to
avoid confusion all flashback scenes were put into black and white so the
audience could differentiate from the present and future I feel like this set us
apart from.
Finally we had a look at different title sequences and which would be most
affected when trying to present our chosen genre. We chose a font that
would best represent this after watching various openings from thrillers. In
the imitation game the opening titles represent that of the machine that the
film has been based around. Within our opening we wanted titles that would
represent our film and after watching and researching how this was done in
the imitation game I feel that we have achieved this.
