Message from the Headteacher
I wanted to take the opportunity to write to parents before you receive
the final round up of news next week. This week has been yet again a very
busy one with yet more sporting occasions, including the secondary sports
day, another music concert, transition evening, welcoming new Year 7
parents and our annual awards ceremony.
I would like to also say a huge thank you to all of those who contributed to
the highly successful “Slice of Summer” last Saturday. A group from the
PSA, mainly led by Penny Lafferty and her team planned meticulously and
this paid off! The sun shone, the children sang and everyone had fun and
spent money! So a big thank you to all those of you who came- staff and
their families, secondary parents and primary families. It is fast becoming
a true all-through school event with a marvelous cake stall run by Jane
Johnston and the Year 8s, and music from secondary students. Although
not all bills in, the wonderful sum of over £5000 seems to be spoken about!
Well done to everyone.
Traditionally we say goodbye to a number of staff at this time of year.
Firstly this year we have an unprecedented number of maternity leaves so
we wish the following every good wish and look forward to hearing their
news- Hannah Ahmet, Daisy Coulbeck, Rebecca Fish and Jenny
Townsend. Lauren Davison and Emily Robinson who will be with us at the
start of the Autumn Term. Other staff are also leaving and we wish them
success- Sophie Wigmore, Jane Reed and Beth Cornelius.
We would also like to thank Carolyn Kellaway our Head of Science for the
great work she has done leading this very popular and successful team.
Carolyn will be returning in September to teach two days a week. Ed Coy,
our Head of Sixth Form is also leaving to a promoted post in St Albans. We
thank Ed for all he has done and wish him success.
New staff will be introduced next term.
Please note that school ends for Simon Balle students on Tuesday 23 July

Slice of Summer – THANK YOU!
We would like to sincerely thank each and every one of our volunteers, helpers and staff mem-
bers who gave up their time and came together to make our best summer fair yet. Events such
as the Slice of Summer would quite simply not be possible without your support.
It was wonderful to see so many happy visitors from across the school and we are especially
pleased that some of our secondary phase students got involved, providing help, entertainment
and refreshments. What great role models!
We are always keen to grow new ideas. If you would like to share any comments, thoughts and
suggestions please email: info@simonballepsa.org.uk

This term, the Reception and Year 1 children have created a tea towel of self-portraits to cele-
brate their academic year.
All children have contributed to the design - so if you'd like to purchase one as a gift or keep-
sake please order as many as you' d like via our website “shop”.
www.simonballepsa.org.uk

We'd like to distribute the tea towels before the end of term and in order to do so we need your
orders by Tuesday 16th July. We will do our best to process the orders promptly and will inform
you if there will be a delay.
Please see below for an example of what your tea towel will look like.
Year 2 & Year 3 Cotton Bag for Life
The children in years 2 and 3 have also taken part in a self portrait project, with a similar concept
to the tea towel design. To celebrate their academic year, their self portraits will be printed onto
a cotton Bag for Life. The bagsare priced at £6 each. See below for an example of what your
bag will look like.
