PROBLEM SOLVING
PRACTICAL PROBLEMS
THEORETICAL PROBLEMS
Technical
Location
Equipment
Storage
The technical issues that I may come across is that if I use a new software that I haven't used before then I
won't have any clue on what I am doing and how to use the software as well as this another problem I may
come across is that I might not know how to do a certain technique within the software that I am using however
when I do my experiments I will practise with all the techniques that I think I will need to use and if I have an
idea for a design when it comes to production and I'm not sure how to it then I will either look in a book that
tells me about the software or I will look online either on forums or YouTube tutorials.
PRACTICAL PROBLEMS
With equipment the issues that I may come across is the battery of the camera dying, so prevent this I will
make sure the camera battery is fully charged and also I will have some spare camera batteries so that just in
case one dies I have spares and it shouldn’t be a problem. Another problem I could come across is out being
able to have the kit when I need it or simply the kit being fully booked out. For this not to be a problem I will
be organized and I will book the kit in advanced for when I need it with plenty of notice.
For storage I am going to make sure that when I go out and take photos there is enough storage on the SD
Card by formatting the card so when I am out and taking photos the card won't get full. I will make sure my
computer has enough storage and delete and files that are taking up space and I don’t need. Another way to
get around this would be by saving my wok online
When it comes to location depending on where my location is will depend on what problems I come across. If
I am taking photos out in public some problems I may come across is that the weather might not be expected
this could be a problem if the weather is windy or rainy etc. A solution would be for e to look at the weather
forecast and plan around the weather for when I'm planning my shoot and also have a another day planned
to go out just in case the weather is unexpected and not what I thought it to be. If I shot in the studio another
problem is the studio may not be available for when I want to shoot or it may be fully booked so a quick
solution would be to book in advanced so there is plenty of notice and it then doesn’t get fully booked.
Software
Models
Because I am planning on using models in my work I could come across the problem that they might not turn
up to the shoot. To get around this I will plan the day on which I am going to go and take photos and I will also
have another shoot planned just in case if they don't turn up I have a few other shoots. This will also allow me
to get more photos if needed.
A problem I may come across during my work is that if the software I uses crashes. A solution that I will take
is when I am using programmes such as adobe photoshop I will keep saving my work every 20 minutes or so
which means if I lose my work I won't have lost everything I can take off from where I last saved it by saving it
frequently. Another problem with software I may come across is if the computer doesn’t have the software I
need I will simply move to another computer ad stay with that machine just I am creating my product all on
the same machine and same version of the software rather than one computer which runs adobe 2020 and
then switching to another computer which runs 2018.
Some problems which I may come across throughout my project would be losing my work. To prevent this from
happening there are many different solutions that I can do to prevent this from happening. One way would be to
keep saving the files in a secure place. I.e. save them on a computer and also save them on a different hard
drive and a memory stick. another way would be to save the files online I.e save them on drobox , google
OneDrive, online Microsoft office and also email the files to yourself so if anything goes wrong you have various
different files. I may also run out of time during my production so to prevent this I will be organized and stick to
my schedule and if I feel like I am running out of time I will try and come into college when I can to and also
work outside of college and work at home
THEORETICAL PROBLEMS
Location
Models
Production
A problem that I may come across for is that the model / models may not turn up to the shoot. I will ask
someone I trust and if they can't make it for due to last minute circumstances then I will have to reshoot and
postpone the shoot. They may also not be wearing appropriate clothing for the shoot. I will let them know what
clothes I would like them to wear and if they don’t wear the correct clothes then I will make sure I have
something that they can wear for the shoot.
Problems when it comes to the location could include the weather not being good when I am filming outside. If
this happens I will try and shoot in a dry place but if I can't I will have to rearrange the shoot. If the location is
hard to get to this will be another problem as the models I need for shoot may not be able to get there if they are
using public transport so I will have to make sure the location is accessible and if I record in the studio it could
be fully booked so I will have to make sure this is all organized before the shoot and that I ave booked it out
THEORETICAL PROBLEMS
Equipment
Finance
Finance could be a problem for my project if I want to create a physical product for my work. A way around this
could be to make digital products. So rather than getting my designs printed on t-shirts, hats and jumpers and
then taking photos simply take photos in a blank tee and using either adobe photoshop or adobe illustrator to
add the designs onto the t-shirt. An alternative to this if I wanted to have a physical product would be to look on
websites such as vistaprints and try and find the cheapest way to design the product and see if it would be
cheaper to screen print the item or heat press the item. It may even be worth buying one of these kits off eBay
and trying to create the product myself.
He problems I may come across could be that the SD card corrupts. I will make sure my work is backed up on a
computer however if it happens after the shoot before I can back up the images I will have to go out again and
reshoot. Another problem I may come across is if the camera stops working. If this happens I will have to use
what I got. I.e. a spare camera or use a iPhone camera. Another problem I may come across is the computer I
use may not have the software that I need so I will have to move to another computer whilst I am editing my
pictures. The computer may also crash so I will have to frequently keep saving my work
PHOTO MANIPULATION
photomanipulation
(Noun)
The application of image-editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or
deception
Photo manipulation is transforming, altering and editing the image using different
techniques to achieve the desired look. Photo manipulation includes merging images
together, changing the contrast, exposure, colour adjustment and just anything that
makes the image different than how it was originally taken. For my product I will be
using photo manipulation to change the exposure, brightness, and saturation etc of
the photo depending how it turns out but changing the lighting just makes the photo
look that extra bit better and makes the colours stand out more. I will also be using
photo manipulation to try and edit a logo on the product and the packaging so that it
looks like the logos were on the products when I went out to take the photos and not
look like they have been edited on.
PHOTO EXPERIMENTS
PHOTOSHOP EXPERIMENTS
To begin with I started by getting rid of the logo on
the models T-shirt. To do this I used the rectangular
marquee and I layered this via copy and placed the
copy over the logo and then used the spot healing tool
to blend it together so that it doesn’t look patchy and
it all goes well together. I then changed the levels,
brightness and exposure of the photo until I was happy
with it. This helped bring more colour to the modeI
and makes the photo look better in general. I also
added text and placed this in the centre of the t-shirt
and changed the opacity of the text. I also added some
texture to the text so it makes it look more realistic
being on the t-shirt
PHOTOSHOP EXPERIMENTS
To begin with I started by simply using the quick
selection tool so that I could cut the jacket out
which allows me to use the photo to put on the t-
shirt with the jacket going over the top of it. I then
added a vector mask and inverted this layer. I then
used the pen tool to mask around the t-shirt and
then pressed shift and delete to delete it so the
layer was transparent and the Mona Lisa photo was
behind it which then allowed me to show the Mona
Lisa being underneath the T-Shirt. I then changed
the ode for it from normal to multiply which would
then allow the creases under the t-shirt to show up
after this I finally used the liquify tool which allowed
me to move the photo slightly so where the creases
are in the t-shirt the photo creases slightly as well. I
think this turned out quite well but I could of
improved on liquify the image. I think an
improvement to make could be to use the warp
tool instead of liquify so I will test with this.
ILLUSTRATOR
To begin with I started by creating a
new document 20x20. I then used the
ellipse tool to create the oval and I then
created a smaller oval inside the big
one. After that I used the fill tool to
make the first oval black and I kept the
second one white. This allowed me to
make the oval to look thin. I then added
a text box and out the brand name on it
and used the font Mistral as I thought
this worked well. I then went back to
the ovals and changed the shape so
they just fit the text.
