The Project
For my project, I will be creating a commercial for an online
radio show that I recently created. Produced myself, the
radio show will focus on topics, issues and concerns that
young people face in the world today. Thinking outside of
the box, the show will not be like any other radio show out
there today. With my listeners being my actual co-hosts,
there will be fun, gossip, news, and the input of my listeners.
What makes this show different is that I wont be just talking
at or to my listeners, I will have them involved with me. For
my station, I need promotion work, catchy enough to draw
listeners in.
1. Brainstorm Ideas for
Commercial
Coming up with unique ideas and a main theme for the
commercial to really grab the attention of my audience.
Duration: Three days. July 22, 2014
Details: Writing down ideas, listening to commercials on the radio
and TV to see how they are being delivered, freestyle ideas and
record them, and write EVERYTHING down. Getting advice, tips
and ideas from others would be helpful and reaching out to
present or former radio personalities on how to create a
successful commercial.
2. Write Script
S After coming up with ideas for the commercial, the next step is
to write the actual script for the commercial bringing together all
of the ideas.
Duration: One Week. July 29, 2014
Details: Bringing all ideas from brainstorming and collecting
information and feedback from others, making an outline of the
ideas and theme in order, writing a rough draft script and lastly
writing a final script for the commercial. Reaching out to
professionals to proof read the script and finalize it.
3. Production System
S After finalizing the script for the actual commercial, the next
step is to insure that a recording system is installed onto a
useable computer and a recording studio or area is reserved;
also all materials are prepared and ready for production.
Duration: Two weeks. August 8, 2014
Details: Contact studios for studio time to record and confirming
dates, make sure production systems are on computer by
downloading or purchasing them, materials such as microphone
and headphones must be available by purchasing them or using
studio’s.
4. Record Commercial
S After confirming production time and place, it is now time to
record the actual commercial with voice only.
Duration: Two days. August 13-14, 2014
Details: Using studio or computer with digital recording system
recording commercial with voice only. Recording multiple times,
record in different voices and expressions, putting emphasis on
word choices that will stand out in the commercial and having fun
making the commercial.
5. Additional Sounds
S After recording the voice only commercial, the next step is to
collect and gather different sound bites, splitters, instrumentals,
and sound effects to add onto the commercial.
Duration: Two days. August 22, 2014
Details: Finding different background sounds for the commercial
via YouTube, making your own instrumentals on Garage Band or
Adobe Audition, using snippets from movies, TV shows or songs,
saving sounds to a personal drive for the final production.
6. Edit
S After recording the voice audio and searching and or making
your own sound bites for the commercial, the next step is to
edit the voice audio.
Duration: Three days. August 25, 2014
Details: Using studio or digital editing system on computer, editing
voice recording on Adobe Audition, GarageBand or other software
types, studio editing systems, adding enhancements to recording,
and making changes if needed.
7. Producing Production
S After editing the voice recording to liking, the next step is to add
the additional sounding (instrumentals, sound bites, sound effects
and splitters) to the voice recording to create the commercial.
Duration: Three Days. August 29, 2014
Details: This is the time where both voice recording and sounds will
come together for the commercial. Balance out the audio in the sound
bites and instrumentals from the actual voice recording. Use Adobe
Audition or Garage Band or other editing programs for adding
enhancements to sound bites. If producing in studio, use studio
software for adding sound for background voice recording.
8. Produce Final Commercial
S After combining both voice audio recording and sound bites
and making enhancements to them both, it is now time to put
everything you’ve been working on all together for an amazing
outcome of the commercial. The final step for the commercial.
Duration: One week. September 5, 2014
Details: The final step of the production bringing everything
together into one mix down and creating the final commercial.
Using an editing system such as Adobe Audition or Garage Band,
headphones, hard drive to save once commercial is completed.
9.The Finished Product
S After editing the final commercial with the voice, sound effects
and the instrumentals, it is now time to post the finished
commercial onto the online radio show’s website as the theme
to promote the show.
Duration: One day. September 10, 2014
Details: The finished product must now go onto the online website
for the radio show. The commercial will help promote the actual
show. The commercial will be used for short commercial breaks
within the show.
10. Promote!
S After posting the commercial onto the website where the radio
show will be, it is not time to use the commercial to promote the
actual show.
Duration: One week. September 19, 2014
Details: Using social media to promote the radio show with the
commercial. Creating links where listeners can click on via any social
network to direct them to the commercial and homepage for the show.
Create demos with the commercial and pass them out to people to
spread the word about the show. Aside of social media and
networking, creating flyers to inform people about the radio show,
which will draw them to the website where they will also hear the
commercial. The objective it to promote the show and attract
