Working title
• The name of my project Is mirrors. I have chosen this because the
main asset of the short film that creates the most tension and jump
scares is mirrors.
Audience
• For my short film I am going to aim the story towards teenagers and adults aged 16 and up. Because
my short film is a horror, it will only be suitable for mature audiences. The age rating for the film would
probably be a 15 sourced from the BBFC which is suitable for the age range of my audience since they
will be old enough to see a film of this rating. But having this age would also mean that people under
the age of 15 would not be allowed to view it. I will try to aim the film towards both genders but most
elements of the film will be aimed towards females. The majority of the characters in the film will be
females and I feel like females would get more scared than males with the storyline. In some scenes of
my short film, the main character can be seen doing stereotypical actions of the female gender such as
putting on lipstick and brushing their hair which I don’t think males would be interested in viewing
when watching a shot film. Males typically enjoy horror films which include violence, blood and
murder. My short film is going towards supernatural which males might be interested in but might not
be the preferred horror genre for them. This film would be aimed for people in the C2 NRS social grade.
The film incudes shots of the evil twin in cameras of mobile phones and will have characters will be in
college when the short film is set. People of this social grade and up will most likely have mobile
phones and people of the C2 NRS social grade could be working part time and be in school/college or
university. The film can also appeal to the grades of B,C and D as the people of these grades will have
the time to watch the short film on whatever device they have. The psychographic of the target
audience would probably be an explorer. Explorers like to venture out into different cultures and
experiences, even if that experience is impossible. So they watch films which allow people to expand
on those impossible thoughts. My film would be suitable for this psychographic because it allows them
to explore the genre of the supernatural.
rationale
• Looking at my previous work I have learned a lot of things that I
should and shouldn’t do. For example, in my short film rotation I
learned the importance of using audio effects and visual transitions
through my evaluation. Looking back at m irn bru advertisement, I
didn’t stick to the original theme because
of unforeseen circumstances so for my advertisement the filming was
last minute and didn’t have a proper story. For my short film, it is
crucial that I stick to what the story Is and not to go on a tangent in
order for the project to be successful.
Project concept
• For my project I am going to do a short film in the horror genre. The story of the
film is that a girl is going through her everyday routine and is constantly getting
small glimpses of someone who looks exactly like her but in darker clothing than
her (her evil twin). She gets slightly concerned a bit but tries to forget it. She goes
home and looks at herself in the mirror and she looks and the twin is there again.
The twin is only in the mirror and no where else in the room. She gets freaked out
and runs out the room. When she comes back into her room a while after the
twin is sitting on her bed smiling at her sinisterly. The screen turns black. Then
there are some shots from the back of the character brushing her hair. Her mum
calls her down for breakfast and it is revealed that the evil twin is looking in the
mirror and when she leaves it is revealed that the good twin is trapped in the
mirror trying to get out.
• The purpose of the short film is to unsettle and frighten the audience. In order to
have effective research I will use website such as YouTube to find out the best
ways to combine shots and how to create a effective jump scare.
evaluation
• In order to evaluate my work efficiently I will have to conduct
different evaluative techniques. These are things such
as peer feedback. Peer feedback is good techniques as you can find
out what the target audience likes and dislikes about the film. I will
also evaluate myself and see what a could of done to improve my
work.
