Composites are materials made from two or more constituent materials that remain separate and distinct within the new material. They have several advantageous properties like high strength and stiffness. Composites consist of a matrix that embeds and protects a reinforcement. The matrix maintains the position of the reinforcement and prevents crack propagation, while the reinforcement imparts special properties. Composites can be classified as particle reinforced, structural, or fiber reinforced depending on the type and geometry of the reinforcement. Particle reinforced composites are the cheapest and come in large or dispersion-strengthened particles in a matrix.
