  In what waydoes your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

  Front Cover -Use Looking at the Liam Gallagher NME magazine I took a lot of ideas and inspiration from it as I firstly noticed the masthead and the title being the same colour of red and almost the same height and width I thought this was a good idea and used it. I also used the 3 different colours of text for the cover line at the top.

  Front Cover -Develop For my own magazine I decided to stick to the same positioning of the cover lines that are on the NME one but with obviously different content. I also decided to change the red text you see on the Liam magazine to white with a drop shadow which I think fits very well.

  Front Cover -Challenge I did however decide to make Brad the model on my magazine front cover face the opposite way to Liam on his NME magazine. This makes it look as if Brad was gazing at something. I also believe as he is not wearing glasses like Liam we are able to see his emotion more, or lack of it. This is effective as it is typically seen on magazines of the indie-rock genre which I subsequently chose.

  Contents Page -Use When I looked at the overall look of the NME content pages they make, however I think that the key to it looking so clean and easy to read is by putting the main 5 subheadings straight down the right of the magazine so they don't take up much space. This meant that I could then even further enlarge my cover and smaller image making the magazine as a whole a lot easier to look at and read.

  Contents Page -Develop In terms of developing my magazine from the one created by NME I simply changed the colours around on the band index. This is a small change but a worthwhile one as it was very quick and easy to do. I feel like it gave a lot more to my magazine, brightening it up as well as the main colour of it (red), matching with my masthead which is the exact same colour of red.

  Contents Page -Challenge In my contents page I decided to challenge the NME contents page I was looking at and taking inspiration from as I believed I could add value to my own magazine that the NME one doesn't have in having a smaller image. This did not threaten the size or appeal to the viewer that the large image creates however it did make the magazine much more visually pleasing.

  Double Page Spread- Use As the cover image is the main focus on every double page spread, it is what the reader gets drawn to straight away as it is visual. This meant that when I looked at the Ed Sheeran magazine straight away I decided to copy what they've done in putting a pull quote on the centre of the person. This is because as the reader looks to the image they will be drawn to this pull quote next and a pull quote is designed to make the reader want to read on.

  Double Page Spread- Use To make it easy for the reader to follow I made a small introduction of one column but then stuck to the normally seen 2 columns in magazines. It reads down and then to the left and down again which is again the norm seen in all magazines not just music ones.

  Double Page Spread- Develop As this standout letter on the Q magazine behind the text is effective in improving the appearance of the magazine as I think it's a good touch. I believe it is very basic and therefore I put a twist on it, I wrote Panic the name of my magazine in a faint red behind the text so the text was still easy to read however it boosts the look of my double page spread a lot in my opinion.
