WHO WOULD BE THE
AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT?
My target audience was originally both men and
women; but I have decided to target one gender
in particular, men; as they make up the majority
of customers for this genre of magazine. It would
then get a stronger market, as I have made it to
be more appealing for the male gender.
The age range would be late teens/early20’s
(around 16 to 21 year olds), because it has
quite a chatty mode of address and it’s not too
formal; this would encourage people of this age
range to read it because it’s more like
someone’s talking with them about their
favourite bands etc.
They would probably be in full time education
as a student, either at college or university;
probably with a part time job, like working in a
pub, bartending or waiting, cafes, and
restaurants. They would most likely live at
home with their parents; this would give them
more disposable income, which can be spent
on my music magazine. They would be an E
on the jicnar scale.
They would probably have a large group of
friends, who would vary in age. They would
most likely use Facebook, YouTube, Spotify,
and many other music related platforms.
They would also use sites like Ticketmaster,
E-festivals, HMV, and ITunes. Their buying
habits probably wouldn’t be too good, with a
lot of it spent on alcohol, cigarettes,
music/music related products, magazines,
clothes, and tickets for concerts/festivals.
The brands they would use would mainly be: Vans,
Converse, Soho’s, and many online stores like
Blue Banana, where they can purchase more
alternative wear. Also they could purchase
brands like manic panic and crazy colour if they
dye their hair.
They would be hedonists and individualists, so
they want to have a good time and stand out
from the crowd, with the freedom to think for
themselves. They would probably like to impress
others and may have a strong rebellious attitude
in their social groups, but can be different when
their alone, as they may not feel as powerful,
and may even adopt a more relaxed, casual
persona as their not being judged by others; they
want respect for their choices.
Overall my magazine would have a relatively
mixed audience of both mainstream and niche;
but it would mostly be a niche market, so there
would be something appealing for every different
music group.
