  Quadrophenia Subculture – Hebelieves that youth subcultures are a way for young people to challenge society and to challenge hegemony. They do this through style, clothing, music, make up and drugs. Stan Cohen – Came up with the idea of moral panic. Media blows things out of proportion when something negative happens involving a subculture. A moral panic is where a certain group is demonized and seen as a threat to social values. Deviancy amplification is when a certain event is sensationalized in the media and it is seen as more important and dangerous than it actually is, this can lead to a moral panic. 1. Jimmy is represented as wanting to be part of a gang. He wants to be part of the mod culture because identity is very important to him. This is because he feels he has no identity at home and at work as he spends his time being degraded and getting told what to do by his parents at home and higher ups at work. This would definitely resonate with teenagers who feel as though they are the bottom rung of society and don’t have freedom to make their own choices. He’s also shown wanting to be different to everyone else in society, even though he just the same as any other mod. He also takes the mod life way too seriously, even going as far as quitting his job to fit into the mod subculture.
