  My audience.My audienceis teenage girls between the ages 14-19 who are interested in music and fashion, but who still have a childish side to them. A stereotypical audience for my magazine would be someone like this:

  Audience Example.This isJemma :) She's 17 and lives in Braunstone, Leicester. She goes to Lutterworth College where she is currently taking her A-levels which include: media studies, english literature, english language and food technology. I have chosen to use Jemma as an example of my target audience because she is in the middle of my age range and listens to the genre of music I am featuring in my magazine. As well as listening to indie artists such as Snow Patrol and Kate Nash, she also listens to 'soft rock' like Coldplay and Muse. As this is the main aim I am going for in my magazine it makes Jemma fit into my target audience easily. Jemma gets her music from sites such as Spotify, and is a regular user of her iPod, and consequently uses iTunes frequently.Jemma likes to spend her time with her friends, whether going out or just spending some time talking. This gives her a chance to share similar interests, which is a quality I am looking for in my target audience, as this would help boost magazine sales. Her clothes tend to be items that she feels comfortable in, but she also likes items with a 'quirky' streak, such as tops with moustaches on. My magazine is going to include a similar streak of difference via clothes, which should hopefully interest more people in my target audience.Jemma feels that a music magazine should contain interviews with artists, information about up-coming artists, articles about new albums/singles, and any other pieces that would be relevant to the genre of music she is interested in.

  Front Cover.My colourpalette would attract my target audience because the bright colours, such as I used for the masthead, would make the magazine look more interesting and something they will be able to relate to, as the are the types of colours that are generally associated with teenagers. My model, Hayley Quinn, is 18 which is in my target audience bracket making her more favourable to them and more able to connect to as a peer, rather than being seen as a celebrity. Her style, though different, is always linked to the latest fashion, which would also interest my target audience because they would be avid followers of fashion. My audience would also be attracted to the pose that the model is pulling, because it’s ‘unique’ and ‘fun’, something that would make the magazine look interesting and enjoyable to them, more than a magazine with a normal, stereotypical pose, like having a model standing against a wall or a close up of the models face just looking into the camera. Having the list of artists that are also featured in the magazine on the front cover would also attract my audience, because they would like those artists and therefore be more willing to read something about the said artists/bands.

  Contents.The font thatI used for the headings on my contents page would attract my target audience because it is quite ‘cartoon’ or comic book style, which would relate to the younger girls who may be interested in such things. The image that promotes the new talent section of my magazine would interest my audience because it is a similar pose to which my audience would take themselves, and this means they can relate to the image quite easily. Having all the artists/bands that are featured in the magazine listed in the contents is an idea I got from NME magazine, and I think my audience would like this because it would allow them to get to the articles they want to read more quickly, and teenagers usually want information they are interested in as quickly as they can. I think that also having a small summary under each article on my contents page would interest my audience because they can decide whether they would like to read the article more quickly, and then they don’t have to go through the whole magazine, which some of my target audience said they hated doing.

  Double Page Spread.Themain part of my double page spread that would attract my audience is the drawings that are featured on it, as it makes the page look more ‘teenage’ due to the fact that teenagers stereotypically like to doodle on things. The drawings would make the article look more aesthetically pleasing, as well as interesting, for example, my audience could look at the drawings once they have finished the article. The article itself is all about my artists new album, which my target audience would like to read about because they would be fans of the artist and consequently, would want to know all about the new album. Also having the information that I included in the right hand, bottom corner would attract my audience. The information about when the album is released on iTunes would interest them because most teenagers download their music from iTunes, so it would give them time to get a iTunes voucher/save the money that they already have for iTunes. The information about the interview next week would allow them to decide whether they think the magazine would be worth buying, depending on whether they like or dislike the artist/band that would be the main feature in the next edition. This would attract them because they are once again gaining information easily and quickly.
