WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
ABOUT NEW TECHNOLOGIES
AND SOFTWARE FROM THE
PROCESS OF CREATING YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
QUESTION 6 – SOPHIE ROBSON
LIST OF HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE USED
Throughout the process of creating my magazine I used a lot of different tools to create my magazine.
• Prezi
• Photoshop
• Mac
• Canon Camera
• Professional Standard Lighting
• Powerpoint
• Powtoon
• Word
• PC
• Blogger
APPLE MACS
Most of my work was done on a macs. I used this as I felt it gave me the chance to understand how to use
them more as up until now I hadn’t had much experience using them up until now. I used it to access
programs such as photoshop etc. to create my magazine and do a lot my research and planning. Using the
macs made it easier to use photoshop and edit things easier. This gave me a lot of transferable skills in all
of my subjects so it was helpful to understand how to use all the programs and hardware.
BLOGGER
Blogger helped me organise all of my research and planning. I had heard of blogger but had never actually
used it as I thought it would be complicated and too hard. However I found it easy to use and helpful to
keep things organised. I customised my blog to make sure it would appeal to my target audience and was
easy to navigate and use. I chose to use labels to make it easier to navigate and so the user could find what
they were looking for easily. I used blogger to present all of my research and planning, final products and
my evaluation.
PHOTOSHOP
I used photoshop to create my reader profile, drafts and final products. Previously I had no experience of
using photoshop and didn’t know how to use it very well. It helped me learn the basics and more advanced
skills. I used it to create my magazine and edit my images I chose to use. Editing the images helped me
present them the way I wanted to so they would appeal to my target audience. I learned skills that helped
me in photography. Throughout the I used the crop tool to change the image sizes and make sure they fit
the page. In most of my images I edited the levels so the colours and contrast was emphasised. I used the
rulers to make sure that all my text was allied correctly to make sure it was organised and structured. I
used the burn and dodge tools to lighten and darken pictures where I needed to make sure the image
looked the best it could and blended the backgrounds the best I could.
CAMERA AND LIGHTING
I had previous experience with the camera and lighting from photography so I knew how to set the lighting
etc. to create the best image I could. I used this set up so I could create high quality images and make sure
they weren’t pixelated. I was able to customise the settings in the camera to make sure I got the quality of
image that I wanted and make sure I got the lighting the way I wanted. I was able to experiment with the
different types of lighting so I could decide what I wanted to achieve. In the end I chose to focus mainly on
high key lighting as it was the most common lighting used and hid the flaws of the model..
