• Equality Act 2010 Duty to be anticipatory of the needs of disabled
students
• Increasing numbers of international students
• Commitment to widening participation for underrepresented groups
• Eliminate disadvantage resulting from linguistic, educational or
cultural background or learning need (due to disability)
• Inclusive approaches encourage flexibility, variety and active learning:
providing multiple modalities for optimum learning

Who are our students?

InclusiveBaseline Standards
1. We will ensure that all learning and teaching practices,
activities, and supporting materials, can be used by all students.
(Reasonable adjustments may still be required in some
circumstances)
2. We will release materials in advance so that students have
sufficient time to engage with them prior to scheduled sessions.
3. We will ensure that there is an appropriate range of
assessment methods at a programme level, and that the language
used in assessment tasks is clear.

InclusiveBaseline Standards
4. We will ensure that colleagues with marking responsibilities
are up to date with the inclusive marking policy.
5. The University will support staff to achieve these baseline
standards.
6. Schools will identify academic inclusivity leads to help embed
guidance in local contexts.

Our own journey - we're a work in progress too!
• Creation of "Being Inclusive in..." Guides-
careful about the font size,
background colours, layout but not
navigable for screen reading software!
• We created an alternative version in the most
accessible format and had this approved by the
RNIB Transcription Service but now we have 2
versions...
• Could we use Office 365 to create a Word
version which is both visually attractive and has
enhanced accessibility features, rather than a
PDF?

just need to format it correctly)
• Available to download in Word and PDF

• Accessed with Microsoft's Learning
