Codes and conventions.
‱

Music – The music played in the background of a radio trailer must match the
mood of the trailer e.g. a trailer from a love film must have soft and smoother
music compared to a action film which would have dramatic music. Sound effects
are also used in the background to emphasis certain things as the listener wont be
able to see the trailer.

‱

Voice over – A voice over will talk over the background noises explaining the
documentary e.g. the purpose of it and then the listeners will get to hear sneak
peaks of interviews in the actual documentary while the voice over isn't speaking.
This will draw the audience in. The voice over also tells the listeners when the
documentary will be on television and what channel and age certificate.

‱

Slogan - A slogan should be used at the end of the trailer to make the listeners
remember something about the trailer because the main objective of a radio
trailers is to get the public to watch what you are advertising.
Example of a trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os_9P9LCOKE – This is a radio trailer for Doctor Who Series
one.
The beginning states what radio station the trailer is featured on. This needs to match the radio’s
target audience and the trailers audience. For example Children's films aren't going to be
advertised on Radio 1 as their audience is aimed at teenagers and adults.
It then cuts to an voice over of the doctors asking “Do you want to come with me” this is luring
the audience in. The doctor ends with “Its going to be the trip of a life time” This isn't giving too
much information to the audience and leaves them wanting more.
The background music is the Doctor Who theme song and added sound affects of the famous
‘Darlicks’ These sounds let the audience familiarise them selves with the series.
The same radio presents then finishes by saying the name of the series, the time and day and the
channel the series will be played on.
