What are Radio Trailers?
• RadioTrailer are shortened version of a film trailer which is played over the
radio.This is also another form of advertisement for the film that will be
released.
• The time that the trailer will last is around 25-40 Seconds Long.
• They can be featured on Commercial Radio station as they will have advert slots
that can be paid for.
• This is a mix of clips from the film and a voice over explaining important
information and also allowing for the audience to visualise.
Why is it used?
▪ They can be a different advert that will appeal to a whole range of an
audience. It gives more focus to the atmosphere and tone that the
film is trying to create by making the audience picture what they
think that the film will be.
▪ 2017 saw records high for many commercial radio station listening
ratings and with the variety of stations that are based for age it can
help to advertise the film to a wide audience.

▪ This is used as it allows for a guide in which the audience will be able
to understand key parts, give the audience information.
▪ Make the trailer professional.
▪ Set the tone and the mood of the film that is been released.
▪ They can tell the audience the title, slogan and actors/directors that
are associated to this film.

▪ Can be used to create atmosphere and tone for the film
▪ Is placed in a film to help the trailer flow and can be heard in the
background to the film and voiceover audio.
▪ Sound effects can be used to keep the listener engaged with the
trailer and create the atmosphere of what there trying to get across.
▪ Helps the audience to understand what they are going to expect.

▪ In radio trailers there can sometimes be features ofVox Pops,
interviews and quotes that will help pursued the audience to see the
film.
▪ Vox Pops are informal comments that can give feedback on what
they liked back about the film and how the audience can relate with
that.
▪ Quotes that are used in films are mostly used in radio trailers to
establish the characters, tone and genre of a film. If the audience can
recognise a voice then it will give the film star power which will help
with the advertisement.

▪ The radio trailer has to contain facts and stats to make it informative
and give the audience knowledge about the listener.
▪ Facts are used to help convince the audience to go and watch the
film.
▪ It makes the trailer sound more interesting and incising to watch.
What are the best Radio stations to
use?
▪ There are so many different radio stations that cater to different
taste of music and also age of who listening to it. So the trailer can be
put onto stations that film will appeal to.
▪ Most radio stations are commercial which means that they have
Adverts. Big radio companies who are Commercial are Global Radio
which own stations like Capital and Heart. Bauer Radio who own
stations like Magic and Hallam FM (SouthYorkshire).The only
stations that can’t be advertised is BBC radio stations as they do not
allow adverts on their stations only BBC adverts are allowed to be
aired.
▪ For our film stations like Capital would work for our age range as we
are aiming for the 16-25 age range.

▪ This is a radio trailer of some films that were broadcasted at the time
on the radio.The films that are included are Gravity, Pacific Rim,The
Conjuring andThe Great Gatsby.
• Included in these trailers are the conventions that firstly the trailers
are normally around 25 – 30 seconds long.
• It includes a voiceover of what to expect from the film, reviews and
when it will be released.
• There is also snippets of film clips that are seemed interesting and
also giving the first indication of what will be included in the film.
• Soundtracks of the film are also able to be heard throughout the
