Raja Ram Mohan Roy was a 19th century Indian social reformer born in Bengal in 1772 who died in 1833. He is known as the father of modern Indian journalism. He published several journals in English, Hindi, Persian, and Bengali to promote social reform, including opposition to sati and support for a free press. Some of his notable publications included the Brahminical Magazine, Sambad Kaumudi, Mirat-ul-Akbar, and Bengal Herald.
