Recycling the environment
India generates 150 million tons of waste daily, with only 10-20% recycled properly. Waste management is a major problem in India due to rapid population growth, lack of public awareness, and limited funding. Recycling helps the environment by reducing pollution and waste in landfills. It also creates jobs and builds communities as people work together on recycling programs. The presentation encourages recycling daily items like newspapers, metals, plastics and glass to help the environment.

Waste Generation inIndia The Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) has estimated that India generates 150 million tones of waste in a day and most of it is left in the landfills at the city outskirts leaving a stinking smell and vultures hovering over heaps of hazardous material.

Faced with rapid population growth, disorganization of city governments, a lack of public awareness and limited funding for programs, cities have struggled for years to find a way to responsibly manage the country’s ever-increasing amount of trash. Only 10-20 per cent of the city waste is recycled in an environment-friendly way and the rest is allowed to lie in the landfills. Waste Management in India

- 10. Every time youbuy something it has to be replaced on the shelf. Factories produce more and more to meet our needs.

- 12. Shops encourage us to buymore goods than we really need.They want to make as much profit as they can. We like to try new things too. We are consumers.
- 13. Factories which producemore and more manufactured goods to pollute the atmosphere directly with gas and airborne particles.
- 14. Non bio-degradable packagingalso pollutes the environment. Packaging is expensive. Why pay more for expensively packaged goods, when the package is then just thrown away? Such packaging ends up in a landfill site and takes many, many years to biodegrade.
- 15. We also addto air pollution directly by using our cars and bikes when it is not always necessary to do so. Walking is healthier Cycling keeps you fit too!
- 16. While global warmingaffects the environment and weather patterns. The earth’s atmosphere is overheating due to the hole in the ozone layer Acid rain is damaging buildings, crop sand vegetation.

- 19. These materials canbe easily separated for recycling at home. •Newspaper •Metal•Glass •Plastic
- 20. Use paper bags,yellow bags, and cardboard boxes for carrying your shopping. They can be reused, recycled, and they are also biodegradable. Most plastic carrier bags are not eco friendly because they are made from polythene which can take many years to rot. Very few are biodegradable. Others can be returned to the shop and replaced
- 21. Our bins areoverflowing with more and more rubbish. How many bags does your family produce every week?
- 22. Pollution harms theenvironment. The environment is a life support system that all living things depend on. If the environment is harmed, so are all living things.
