Reflective Journal
Monday the 21st of March to Thursday the 24th of March 2022
At the start of this project, I wrote down three ideas in a mind map
format on the initial plans PowerPoint. My three ideas were: a
conspiracy theory documentary, a horror movie documentary and a
Loch Ness Monster documentary. My idea for the conspiracy theory
documentary was to interview all my friends about what conspiracies
they believe in and why. The idea for the horror movie documentary
was to research horror movies and to analyse what ingredients they
consist of. The final idea that I've actually chosen to pursue in my
FMP is a documentary about The Loch Ness Monster. In the
documentary, I will go to a location with water (possibly coastal) and
discuss facts and the origins of The Loch Ness Monster. When I had
finished the initial plans PowerPoint, I started the research
PowerPoint by comparing my product to similar existing products.
Finally, I made my survey in advance for next week.
Monday the 28th of March to Thursday the 31st of March 2022
This week, I analyzed the results of my survey on the research
PowerPoint. After that, I explained how my product would appeal to
different people due to the survey's results. Then, I interviewed two
people from my class and finished my research PowerPoint. Shortly
after that, I uploaded it to teams and came up with an idea for my
production experiment. My idea was to use a camera, as a camera
would be essential to the making of a documentary. I wasn’t in on
Thursday as I couldn’t make it to college.
Monday the 4th of April to Thursday the 7th of April 2022
This week, I started on my production experiments by booking out
the studio and a camera. I then interviewed a friend of mine about
general questions about him. The interview wasn’t very serious but it
was only an experiment so it doesn’t matter. After I got the footage, I
shortened it down and rendered a lake over the green screen which
was easy. I then started my proposal which helped me figure out wat
my product was going to be exactly. After finishing the proposal, I
started the pre-production PowerPoint which was about avoiding
problems or planning in case a problem occurred. This was an
enjoyable PowerPoint as it was easy but necessary. Finally, I
uploaded all my work onto teams before the easter holidays.
Monday the 25th of April to Thursday the 28th of April 2022
This week, I researched my documentary and the Loch Ness Monster
because that's the topic my documentary is about. I made a
production log word document which I put in all my facts, questions
a timeline and a script in an organised and spacious manner. I found
the information on various websites like Wikipedia, etc. The script
took a while as I had to use connectives like "then" and "also" to help
the flow but not too many times as it'd get repetitive. I wrote
directions in the script of how I was going to edit it and what the
background and shots would look like. Initially my documentary was
going to be about aquatic dinosaurs in Scotland, but when reading
my script I found that moving away from the Loch Ness Monster
ruined the pace so I cut it out. Overall, I'm happy with my script as
it's easy to read and is professional; especially as it's my first time
writing a script ever.
Monday the 2nd of May to Thursday the 5th of May 2022
We weren't in on Monday this week as it was a bank holiday.
However, on Wednesday I tried some animation and learnt how to
roll credits, as experiments to possibly include on my final product.
To animate, I used Photoshop and the pencil tool to draw Loch Ness
and the possible creatures that live within it. To make the credits, I
used Premiere Pro and followed a guide on YouTube which was easy
to follow. Also, I made the credits roll by listing items of food from a
Christmas dinner so it was long enough. The last thing I did was
interview 7 people about the Loch Ness Monster. I asked them all
the same 5 questions, (What’s your name and age? When did you
first hear about the loch ness monster and how? Do you believe in
the Loch Ness Monster…have you always believed this? What do you
think the Loch Ness monster is? What do you think the appeal of the
Loch Ness Monster is?). I really enjoyed the interviewing process, it
was my favourite thing I've done on the course so far.
Monday the 9th of May to Thursday the 12th of May 2022
At the start of the week, I recorded my voice lines on a voice
recorder in the oasis room. On Wednesday, I started editing my
footage and deleting videos with mistakes in and replacing them
with the right clips. I wasn't in college on Thursday.
Monday the 16th of May to Thursday the 19th of May 2022
At the start of the week, I tried to continue editing until I realised
that the Premiere Pro version on the computer was outdated. So as
an alternative I started my evaluation in which I evaluated the
research and planning stages of my product. On Wednesday I had an
exam so I only had two lessons to edit opposed to three. However, I
got the narration finished and the interviews almost finished so I'd
almost finished production. On Thursday, I continued my evaluation
because I couldn’t edit.
Monday the 23rd of May to Thursday the 26th of May 2022
At the start of the week, I looked at footage and images before
saving them for Wednesday when I could edit them into my work.
On Wednesday, I edited all my images and footage onto my
narration as well as adding a title screen and some rolling credits. I
also finished production and started my evaluation and production
reflection. On Thursday I finished my production reflection, my
evaluation and my reflective journal.
