This article discusses the implementation and sustainment of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorders in four correctional facilities. Despite challenges like funding and cultural perceptions, the study found a significant prevalence of opioid use disorders among incarcerated individuals and highlighted the importance of leadership, community partnerships, and system changes to enhance MAT uptake. Only one facility achieved sustained growth in MAT treatment during the project, underlining the need for persistent efforts to improve treatment for incarcerated individuals.
