  Research- Front CoversThisslideshow will present front pages I have gathered from newspaper websites, Google images and newspapers from home. I have annotated them with key features I feel are effective that I will consider using in my own newspaper to make it look more professional.

  Wigan ObserverThis frontcover of the Wigan observer is contrasted with the previous due to a much simpler layout which is something I will consider for my own newspaper. This page also focuses on a positive story which is something I would like to include in my own front cover. However the newspaper is less eye catching than most so a negative point is less people might pick it up to read it. I also like the use of the catchy headline “We’ll drink to that!””This front cover aught my eye due to a powerful headline with emotive lexis such as “Tragic.” I also like the layout of this front page as the images are striking and the advert for cheap holidays is also striking. I also like the colour scheme of the light blue in the newspaper logo and adverts. The fact that the front page concentrates on a negative story is also significant and will keep in mind when creating my own product.

  St.Helens StarI researcheda local newspaper the St.HelensStar and this particular front cover caught my eye. Iliked the bold headline “Horrific” which draws readers into a appealing story. Furthermore this front page displays an eye-catching advert at the bottom of the page about “injury at work” which is a typical advertisement for a newspaper. I will use a similar advert on my own front cover. Furthermore i like the layout due to the main story being separated from the rest of the content creating a vivid image of the main story.

  The MetroI alsoresearched the Metro’s front covers. I gathered this image as I liked the layout such as the long, vivid close up of the woman on the right hand side. I also like the head of the newspaper with the logo and the image fitting well together to give a clear compact structure. Furthermore I liked the concept of giving the readers an insight of what else is inside the newspaper which this particular front cover uses effectively. Furthermore the strap line at the bottom is also effective drawing readers into the newspaper in hope of winning a competition. After much research I realised this is a is a typical convention of a newspaper front cover.

  Warrington GuardianI alsoresearched Warrington Guardian newspapers, with this particular front cover showing a constant style with the range of newspapers the Guardian produces. Yet again a convention of a negative story is used also with an advert being displayed at the bottom but what I like about this front cover is how striking and clear the main story is little with no other story’s getting in the way. However this maybe seen as negative as it could suggest the newspaper lacks depth inside. I also like the emotive real life images use which I need make sure I use in my own product.
