“ Analyzing students performance in listening
comprehension using audio and video
approaches”
Introduction
Nowadays instructional technology has been used widely in
education as materials in teaching. Lots of technologies have
been used as teaching materials such as computer, radio, TV to
make learning session more effective and interesting. Teachers
take this opportunity to use audio-visual material to teach
listening in class in order to make the learning session more
active. (Hayati & Firooz, 2011).
Research Probelm
According to (Marta Szczepaniak, 2013), listening has many
problems that are still uncovered or vague. This is because many
peole including researchers are paying less attention to this
language skills. Due to this, many instructors or teachers are not
exposed on the suitbale tools that can be use in class
Research Objectives
To investigate the effects of using documentary video with
English subtitle to help Diploma students in UiTM to improve
their listening comprehension.

To identify students performance in listening comprehension via
audio to different type of the speakers’ dialect.
To investigate the effects of using documentary video with
Malay subtitle to help Diploma students in UiTM to improve
their listening comprehension
Research Questions
Do documentary video with English subtitle can help Diploma
students in UiTM to improve their listening skill
comprehension?
Do the dialect of the speakers will affect on the students
peformance in listening comprehension via audio?
Do documentary video without Malay subtitle can help Diploma
students in UiTM to improve their listening skill
comprehension?
Research Design
Quantitative approach
Correlational Research (Explanatory Design)
Sample
Diploma students from UiTM
Semester 1 students who take ELC120 course (Repeaters are
excluded)
Probability Sampling: Simple random
