Introduction
• Safety is defined as the act of removing or reducing the risks of harm and
damage to a bearable level.
• In medical field, health and safety are key concerns because of presence of
infectious and hazardous materials that can cause physical and health damage.
• Medical laboratories are hazardous place to work because of presence of
microbial, chemical and biological. Laboratory worker’s health and safety can
be severely threatened if preventive measures are not taken
• This study investigated the laboratory safety awareness among undergraduate
medical laboratory science students.
1
Objectives
• To evaluate the knowledge and awareness about laboratory safety measures
among undergraduate students of Medical Laboratory science.
• To assess the awareness of students about appropriate responses to be taken
in emergency situation if happened in laboratory.
• To check students understanding about Personal protective equipments,
sample handling, chemicals handling and hygiene in the laboratory.

Results:
There is a positive relationship between PPEs, Sample handling, chemical handling, emergency response ,
hygiene knowledge and Student’s awareness which means that if students knowledge about PPEs, sample
handling, chemical handling, emergency response and hygiene increases, then students’ awareness and
knowledge about laboratory safety increases and vice versa. Multiple Regression Equation is
Student Awareness = PPES KnowledgeX1 + Sample Handling knowledgeX2 + Chemical Handling
knowledgeX3 + Emergency response knowledgeX4 + Hygiene knowledgeX5
Y = .319+.328X1+.169X2+.278X3+.417X4+.295X5
