Week Beginning Work Completed
Summer Holidays
Monday 8th
September In this week I was introduced to AS media, the unit that we were studying and
the coursework standards that we had to meet. Also I was told about what the
whole unit consisted of as well as what we had to produce in order to achieve
a good grade at the end of the year.
At this point also I began my logbook and evaluation as the first few steps
linked towards the preliminary task, so I made sure that I was doing my
production log as I go through the whole unit.
Monday 15th
September The following week I began planning up my preliminary tasks, this included
looking up magazine structures and finding out what layout I wanted to do for
my school magazine. After this I began drawing some ideas out, so that I
could visualise what I wanted my final product to be in the end.
Also in this week I began my evaluation tasks that I knew I could complete,
this included analysing my magazine cover and making sure that there were
enough for my research overall.
Monday 22nd
September Next, I did some researched into my target audience to help me with what to
include in my magazine, in order to attract the right audience and gain a wide
target audience.
At this point also, I further completed my production log, and now have gone
into research about the publisher of my magazine and recognising what
makes the magazine so appealing to their target audience and what the
unique selling point was so that I could incorporate that into my magazines.
I also found a model that I could use for my preliminary task and took the
pictures so that I was ready to start putting my magazine together the
following week.
Monday 29th
September I then began the actual production process of my preliminary task and main
task which I started, on Adobe Photoshop CS4, so I then began to create my
front cover for my magazine using the images that I took the previous week
and beginning to form a layout for this page.
Later in the week after places the images in place I began to use the site
‘Dafont’ to get my fonts, I found that this was a great website to use for any
font as it gives you a wide variety of fonts to use and you can find every kind
of font on there, that you need for every style.
Monday 6th
October The following week came and I had finished my preliminary tasks completely
and was able to get the main parts of my main task done also, including
getting the cover lines, masthead, barcode and the normal conventions on.
All I needed to do next was get my main image in place.
Later in the week, I got a model to be featured in my magazine. So we
arranged a date and got together to complete the photo shoot.
Monday 13th
October This week, I had all my images taken for my front cover, contents page and
double page spread and it was just a case of choosing the right ones for each
page. I stated off by visualising my ideas and then narrowing down all the
images that I took so that there wasn't too many. Once I narrowed them
down, I began to manipulate them to how I wanted them to be and this
helped me because it let me see which images would suit the magazine and
which wouldn't.
Later that week I began to do my main task contents page.
Monday 20th
October As this was the last week before the half term, my main priorities were getting
my front cover completed and my contents page almost completed, as I
already had the images, this was easy and didn't take me long, it was just a
fact of trying to get the layout right and up to a good standard.
Later this week I began to draw out my hand drawn drafts for my contents
page, so that before I began to start I knew where I wanted things to go, and
therefore the process was as straight forward as possible and I wasn't
changing too many things.
Half Term
Monday 3rd
November As it just been the half term, I thought that I would catch up on my production
log, so that I wasn't behind and I didn't know where I was with it.
This took me about 2 lessons to do, once I was up to date, I carried on with
finalising my main task and getting my contents page complete to my
standard.
Monday 10th
November At this point the only thing left to do on my main task was make sure that I
had all the codes and conventions that I needed for this page so that it was
the best magazine cover possible.
I then realised that I hadn't looked at the codes and conventions for my
contents page, so I did that to make sure that I was including everything
before I started. This included making sure I had an editorial page with a
photograph and signature and also for me to be consistent with the colour
scheme that I used on my front cover.
Monday 17th
November This week, looking back at my main task front cover, there were empty gaps
and I felt a thought I could move things around, make them larger and make
other things smaller. So what I did was make sure that the empty space that
was on the front cover was filled up. To make sure that I was definitely doing
so, this way I felt as though the space was being used efficiently.
In addition this week I began to do my contents page knowing all the things I
need to include so that I was well prepared to do the task.
Monday 24th
November The next week looking back at my main task, I was happy with the outcome
and at this point I was half way through my contents page having all the main
conventions in.
Also at this stage of contents page, I had made many changes, because I
wasn’t happy with the way it looked, these changes included moving things
and enlarging also. Another change included adding a couple more images
and the rearranging of the layout so that I was able to include a compulsory
editor’s section later.
It was then time to start my double page spread for my magazine and again
because I already had images for them, this was an easy step for me to take.
I placed the images I wanted to use in place.
Monday 1st
December I then began writing up my interview so that I had a template to start from.
Later in the week my I had completed almost completed my finalized contents
page, with only my editors section to fill out. In addition to this I typed up
about half of the answers to the interview questions on my double page
spread.
Christmas Holidays
Monday 12th
January I wrote out my editor’s letter out for my contents page and then I was
completely finished with my contents page. I also added an editor’s picture
and signature.
Mid way through the week I had completely finished my main task contents
page and I was on to writing up my interview for my double page spread and
all I needed to do was post it into Photoshop and arrange it out, so that it
looked the way I wanted it to.
At the end of the week, I had all my all the main conventions in for my double
page spread.
Monday 19th
January Today I made the last changes to my double page spread, which included
moving and changing images around so that it fit the layout that I was going
for.
In this week I also created a questionnaire for my music magazine, which I
intend to give out today and analyse. I also intend to complete my audience
profile sheet.
Monday 9th
February This week, I completed research for my planning and research section and
added again to my production log, so that I was up to date.
Later that week I also got the answers back from my questionnaire, which I
then analysed.
Monday 16th
February At this point, I added in screenshots of a conversation I had with all the
people I needed to use for my music magazine and I deconstructed some
more magazine covers for my production log and also scanned in some work
to include on my production log also.
Monday 23rd
February Today I completed the step-by-step evidence in my logbook of how I created
the front cover and contents page for the preliminary task.
Monday 2nd
March Mid way through the week I finally completed my logbook and put everything
that needed to be included on it and the only thing left to do is upload it all to
my blog.
