Scream is a conventional horror movie that follows typical horror movie tropes. It takes place in people's homes, making the threat of a killer watching more unsettling. The killer, Ghostface, wears a creepy mask and kills victims with a knife before cleaning it on his hands. The killers turn out to be psychotic teen boys from the victims' school. Though not entirely dark, the movie includes gore and jump scares focused on horrific teen killings. Notable scenes show Ghostface killing with a garage door in a graphic way. The movie subverts some expectations by using more high-key lighting than typical for horror and tracking camera work with close-ups during chase scenes.
