Teacher: Mrs. Lester Date: August 17, 2012

All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.

The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview High
School.

   1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project. I will be writing and publishing a children’s
book for my senior project. I will also be drawing all the pictures. My goal is to offer it for
sale on Amazon.com and to make it be as close to a professional looking book as I can.

2) What is your previous experience in this area of study? I enjoy all types of writing whether it be
writing for the school newspaper, narratives, or informational. I also enjoy drawing, especially
drawings related to athletics/sports.

3) To what career will you connect this project (required)? I will connect this to being a
journalist/writer.

4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary. My final product will be a bound children’s book that introduces
children to different sports. I hope to sell it on Amazon or another book retailer. I will write a
draft of the book, and I will draw pictures for each page and cover as well. My plan is to introduce
children (and encourage children to try) tennis, golf, baseball, basketball, football, and perhaps
other sports. Once I feel each page is finished, I will transfer each page to book form and have it
bound. At this time, I am working on learning the binding process, working on sketches, and
exploring broad ideas for the words/story of my book.

5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you? I have to make this book from
scratch. I have to write and draw everything. It all has to be perfect, because my name will be on it!
I also have to write it and draw it so it is understandable to young children. In addition, I have to
learn the process of binding and selling my book.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
Costs may be approximately $100 to bind and sell my book. I already have a sketch book, so that
won’t cost anything. The more copies I make, the more it would cost. I will work odd jobs at
home to earn the $100. If it is more, I may get donations from family who have read my newspaper
articles and seen my drawings.

7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator? Mr. John Bradford

8) What is this person’s expertise in this field? He is a Literature teacher at Creekview, head of the
journalism department, oversees the Clawprint, and is a published writer. In addition, he has his
doctorate degree.
