How does your media product represent particular social groups? My media product is aimed at my target audience which is young people aged 16 to 20. In order to represent them on the front cover of the magazine, which is the first thing they will see, I have used language which conforms to their “indie” stereotype. The fact that there is two reference to festivals, denotes that they are the type of people who enjoy listening to music at festivals, this is also shown through the Polaroid picture which shows a girl in a crowd at a festival enjoying herself. In addition to this the wellies are also shown which are essential at festivals. The model smiling which shows that the genre of music is happy and upbeat, which also reflects the readers attitude to music. The model is also wearing very “everyday” clothing, showing that the consumer can relate to them and is in some ways “normal”.The language used throughout the magazine represents my target audience as it reveals information about the consumer, for example in the editors letter social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace are mentioned, showing that the reader uses these sites and so it active on the internet. This could also reveal that these people are very sociable and listen to a variety of music through sites such as Myspace. The mention of an “unsigned act” also suggests that the reader doesn’t conform to typical chart music and that they listen to a wider range of music, supporting the fact that this magazine is target at the “indie” teenagers of today. The sell lines on the front cover reveal where the consumer would get their music from. In this case it is iTunes. However the fact that there is a review of the safest and most reliable music sites, suggests that a small percentage of readers would illegally download music.
