Introduction
Social network is “A social structure made of nodes (which are generally
individuals or organizations) that are tied by one or more specific types
of relations…” With the rapid growth of people who use or have access to
the Internet, social networking websites are a must for the Internet
community to stay in touch with each other. Social networking web sites
help people keep in touch with old friends, make new friends, distribute
new data or product, and many more aspects of our everyday lives.
What is Social Media?
 Social media refers to online tools and services which allow an
exchange of ideas, information, videos, pictures, and graphics — just
about anything you can name.
 Social media also allows easy sharing and distribution of existing
content to others so that professional work can be shared through
networks.
What is Social Network?
 We define social network sites as web-based services that allow
individuals to:
1. Construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system,
2. Articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection,
and
3. View and traverse their list of connections and those made by
others within the system. The nature and nomenclature of these
connections may vary from site to site.

Working Of SNS
 While SNSs have implemented a wide variety of technical features, their
backbone consists of visible profiles that display an articulated list of
Friends who are also users of the system.
 Profiles are unique pages where one can type oneself into being. After
joining an SNS, an individual is asked to fill out forms containing a
series of questions.

 The profile is generated using the answers to these
questions, which typically include descriptions such as
age, location, interests, and an "about me" section.
 Most sites also encourage users to upload a profile photo.
Some sites allow users to enhance their profiles by adding
multimedia content or modifying their profile's look and
feel. Others, such as Facebook, allow users to add
modules ("Applications") that enhance their profile

Positive Effects
 Social media helps strengthen relationships among teens. Every People
have friends who they have not seen since school .They don't have to worry
about losing touch, because social media has it covered.
 As an teenager it's also very important to understand what's going on
around us rather than just knowing what's going with friends. According to
the article "What Facebook and Twitter Mean for News." 70% of teens
receive most of the news stories they read or watch via Facebook or Twitter.
Positive Effects
 We can study on Social Sites And get merit certificates online. A
student can learn many new things by liking useful pages on
Facebook, watching educational videos on YouTube and by following
on twitter.
Negative Effects
 As every coin has two sides and addiction to anything is always bad.
Being on social networking site means one should be social, but we are
social more on networking site and are keeping ourselves away from
social life. These networking sites are changing the mindsets of the
youths.
 Always connected: Today teens don’t know how to disconnect. Social media
has allowed them to take their life online and instead of saying goodbye to
friends at school and waiting to see them the next day, they just go home and
jump on their favorite social media network and interact with them for the rest
of the day.
Negative Effects
• Cyber crimes :The immediacy provided by social media is available to
predators as well as friends. Teens are more comfortable doing stuff behind their
screens than they are in person. This leads to case of cyber crimes.
Analysis
 India has 125 million Internet users, on an average, Indian web users spend
26 minutes online each day.
 87.1 million users experience Internet on their smart phones and this
number is expected to grow to 165 million by 2015.
 Age group of 15-24 are the highest number of social media users, on an
average Facebook is visited atleast thrice a day.
 67 percent of the teenagers are friends with strangers!!
 Cases of Cyber bullying, Fake Profiles are increased in a huge number.
 Thoughts of the youth are being manipulated with increase in use of
websites.

What is Social Media Doing?
 Social media’s objective is to make profit at the expense of others
addiction. Initially social media make money at low level with
less addiction and as its profit increase people get more addicted
to it.

 Social Networking Sites are of great help in the youth’s daily life.
However, it has positive and negative effects which depend on how a
person will utilize it.
 Social Networking Sites can benefit us in numerous ways and that it
can make life easier for us. However, we should keep in mind that
everything in life should be taken in moderation - in this case, done in
moderation.
 We should always set our priorities straight and remember that despite
being given all that we need, a little extra work wouldn’t do us harm.
