Statement of Teaching Philosophy
Joe Morgan's teaching philosophy focuses on engaging students through class interaction, exploration of multiple means, and experimentation. He engages students by moving around the classroom, telling relevant stories, and getting students to participate in discussions. For exploration, he demonstrates concepts in three ways and lets students try them. Finally, he provides time for students to experiment on their own or in groups to discover and learn from mistakes. His goal is for students to feel confident using library research tools.

- 13. I told theclass a story about how a new woman began showing up in my brother’s photos on facebook.
- 14. “ So,” Iask the class, “I have never seen her before. She starts showing up at all of his concerts. Her name is tagged at the bottom of the page. What’s the first thing I’m going to do?”
- 15. “ Click onher name,” answers one student, nearly falling out of her chair. “ Exactly,” I answer. “I click on her name to find more information .”
- 16. “ It’s nodifferent than this.”
- 17. “ Well, maybea little. . .”
- 18. Students leaning forwardinto the question, answers being given with a smile instead of a sigh

- 21. When I finisha session, my goal is for all students to be confident enough to approach library research. So with every tool, with every concept, I do three things:
