This study analyzed the effects of systemic steroids as an adjunct treatment for idiopathic polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (IPCV). The study compared outcomes between 14 IPCV patients who received oral steroids plus anti-VEGF injections and/or laser photocoagulation, and 26 patients who received anti-VEGF and/or laser only. Patients receiving steroids showed greater visual acuity gains at 3 months, faster resolution of pigment epithelial detachments, and no reported recurrences. However, the study was retrospective so a randomized controlled trial is still needed to conclusively determine if steroids provide benefits for managing IPCV.
