10th September 2016 is World Suicide Prevention Day
It serves as a call to action to individuals and organisations to
prevent suicide. This year, the theme encourages people to consider
the role that offering support may play in combating suicide
World Suicide Prevention Day is organised by the International
Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health
Organisation (WHO)

There was a downward trend in suicides
between 1981 and 2007

has been increasing

Despite recent increases in the number of suicides,
the rate of suicide in England and Wales has
fallen by 29% since 1981
This rate is the age-standardised rate, the number of
deaths is adjusted for the population size and age

Men are more at risk of dying by suicide than women
with men representing 75% of all suicides
registered in 2015
