The Taiko drum festival, associated with the meanings of heartbeat and 'children of the drum', features performers called uchite and typically lasts for 1 hour and 40 minutes. Its history dates back to 1969 with the creation of Za Ondekoza, a group dedicated to taiko drumming, which popularized the art form globally. Notably, the first North American taiko group, the San Francisco Taiko Dojo, was formed in 1968, leading to the development of a unique American-Japanese Buddhist taiko style.
