There were three main reasons for the deterioration of the brick facade at the building in Valencia, Spain: the absence of control joints, an inadequate use of gripping material, and exposure to sun and rain effects like temperature gradients and humidity changes. 2. The brick layer covering the front of a floor slab detached due to incorrect specification of material layer thickness and a lack of supervision during construction resulting in poor connection between the brick layer and wall surface. 3. High relative humidity and lack of ventilation inside the building, as well as a lack of proper training for workers, contributed to the brick detaching from the external wall.
