Textures A/W 13/14 by Tamara Griffith
A high trend for the autumn and winter seasons of
2013 and 2014 seem to be texture. Just like the dress to the
left, embellishments will be everywhere. This dress by Pixie
Market has beads and sequins on it. Sequins seem to be all
over dresses and tops in these future seasons. According to the
WGSN.com report, “Beads, jewels, and oversized crystal
embellishments provide high-shine and three-dimensional
pattern play.” I have seen a rise this winter and fall of a few
embellished apparel items, but it seems like they will be
coming back next year with even more excitement. Some fabrics that will be included in these trends
include the following: lace, metallic lace, brocade, jacquard, and velvet. I came across this trend by
looking at the “The Party Dress: A/W 13/14 US Commercial Update”. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of
bright colors in this trend. There seems to be lots of dark blues, deep reds, black, gold, and silver in the
dresses I came across. Detail will play an important part that season. The embellishments seem to also
be imprinted in different designs. These designs include geometric, all over, and simple. Color blocking
and all over lace seem like trends that are continuing on throughout the year. Sheer yokes and feathers
will be fairly new though. Although I am not a fan myself, velvet and back details will be making their
way into the fashion world as well. This trend is inspired by the 50s, cocktail dress look. It is more
elegant rather than an everyday dress appeal.
