• 1937 Liddell moved to Siaochang to work now

• Outbreak of war between China and Japan.
• 1939 Went on leave to Scotland while his wife
  and two girls returned to Canada

• 1941 Japanese closed down The Hospital and
  the Foreign Residences.
• Siaochang evacuated . All back to Tientsin.
• Wife and children sent home to Canada.
• Japan bomb Pearl Harbour.
