Knowledge and learning in Islam is a duty on every Muslim
It was also related by Anas b. Malik that the Prophet (peace be upon
him) said: “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.”
[Sunan Ibn Mâjah (224) and others]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever seeks a way to
acquire knowledge Allah will make easy his way to Paradise.”
[Sahîh Muslim (2699)]

Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal had said: “We will accompany the inkpot
until our death.” This explains why the early Muslim scholars were
enthusiastic about science and they did discover many facts in
different scientific fields long before the west could be scientifically
illuminated. The following slides to what extent Islam stressed the
importance of science.

who will remember.

Our beloved prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) said:

The seeking of knowledge
is obligatory for every
Muslim (Al-Tirmidhi
www.knowmuhammad.org
If anyone travels on a road in
search of knowledge, Allah will
cause him to travel on one of
the roads of Paradise. The
angels will lower their wings in
their great pleasure with one
who seeks knowledge, the
inhabitants of the heavens and
the Earth and the fish in the
deep waters will ask
forgiveness for the learned man.
The superiority of the learned
man over the devout is like that
of the moon, on the night when
it is

full, over the rest of the stars.

The learned are the heirs of
the Prophets, and the
Prophets leave neither dinar

nor dirham (money), leaving
only knowledge, and he who
takes it takes an abundant

portion. (Sunan of AbuDawood Hadith 3634).

The prophet (PBUH) used to
supplicate: "O Allah, I seek
refuge in Thee from four
things: KNOWLEDGE
WHICH DOES NOT
PROFIT, a heart which is not
submissive, a soul which
has an insatiable
appetite, and a supplication
which is not heard." (Sunan
of Abu-Dawood hadith 1543)

O Allah, I ask Thee for

BENEFICIAL
KNOWLEDGE, acceptable
action, and good provision."
(Al-Tirmidhi Hadith Hadith

And in a hadith Qudsi, the

Prophet said that Allah
says: Search for
knowledge about Me before

you worship Me. How will he
