The jejunum and ileum are the coiled parts of the small intestine located between the duodenum and the ileocecal junction. They are suspended from the posterior abdominal wall by the mesentery, which contains blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, and lymph nodes that service the intestines. The jejunum is the upper 2/5th of the small intestine, while the ileum is the lower 3/5th, terminating at the ileocecal junction. Meckel's diverticulum is a rare congenital pouch located on the ileum.
