The Jesuit Relations were annual reports by French Jesuit missionaries on their efforts to convert Native Americans to Catholicism. The detailed descriptions of indigenous cultures and customs in the Relations made them a valuable historical resource. During the early decades, some Jesuits tried to convert Algonquins and Montagnais while others traveled farther to reach the Hurons. However, Christianity was an exclusive religion, and epidemics led some Natives to blame the Jesuits. Recurrent wars with the Iroquois also impacted the Jesuit missions. Eventually, peace was reached in the 1660s when the Five Nations made terms with the French and their allies.
