About the Iliad The Iliad is an epic poem in dactylic hexameters, traditionally attributed to Homer.  It was set in the Trojan War where it tells the story of how the battle between  Agamemnon and Achilles started.  “Iliad” means  “the story of Ilion.”
Agamemnon  He is the King of Mycenae and leader of the Greeks.  Agamemnon  is the son of King Atreus of Mycenae.  He is also the brother of Menelaus and the husband of Clytemnestra.  Agamemnon was the commander of the Achaeans in the ensuing Trojan War.
Zeus Zeus is the “Father of God and men.”  He was the god of sky and thunder in Greek Mythology. Zeus was the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his siblings.  In most traditions, he was married to Hera, although, at the oracle of Dodona, his consort was Dione.  He is the father of Aphrodite .
Apollo Apollo is one of the most important and diverse of the Olympian deities. He is the god of light and the sun, truth and prophecy, medicine, healing and plague.  Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto and has a twin sister name Artemis.
Poseidon  Poseidon is the son of Kronos, brother of Zeus and lord of the sea.  He was seen as creating new islands and offering calm seas.  Whenever Poseidon was offended or ignored, he struck the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes, drownings, and shipwrecks.  He also caused disturbance.
Aphrodite  Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and sexuality.  Her Roman equivalent is the goddess Venus.  Aphrodite was born when Cronus cut off Uranus’ genitals and threw them into the sea and from the sea foam (aphros) arose Aphrodite.   She also promised Paris the most beautiful woman in the world--- Helen.
Achilles   In Greek mythology, Achilles was a Greek hero of the Trojan War, the central character and the greatest warrior of Homer’s Iliad.   It stated that Achilles was invulnerable in all of his body except for his heel.  The term “Achilles heel”  has come to mean a person’s principal weakness.
Hector In Greek mythology, Hector is a Trojan prince and the greatest fighter of Troy in the Trojan War.  Hector did not approve of war between the Greeks and the Trojans.  Hector commanded the Trojan army, with a number of subordinates.
Athena Athena is the goddess of war, civilization, wisdom, strength, strategy, craft, justice, and skill in Greek mythology. Athena is the virgin patron of Athens.  Athena is also a shrewd companion of heroes and the goddess of heroic endeavour.
Helen  Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda.  Her abduction by Paris is the way the Trojan War came up.  Her name first appeared in poems by Homer.  The marriage of Helen and Menelaus marked the beginning of the end of the age of heroes.  Helen was presented as being born from an egg.  She was named the most beautiful woman in the world.
Menelaus Menelaus was a legendary king of Mycenaean .  He was the son of Atreus and Aerope, and brother of Agamemnon king of Mycenae and leader of the Greek army during the war.
