History of the building
A millennium ago, King Edward of England backed down on his promise to give the
throne to William, Duke of Normandy.
Edward finally gave the throne to Harold Godwinson who was his brother in law.
William was quite angry and he sent his army to conquer England and after he won the
battle of Hastings (1066) he was crowned king.
In 1078, he decided to build a fortress to keep the unruly citizens of London in line.

& Traitors' Gate
In the Green Tower, also known as Bloody Tower; there were many
executions, including those of Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, Lady Jane
Grey and Sir Walter Raleigh.
Many Tudor's prisioners entered the tower of London through the Traitors'
Gate, it was on the river so they entered the Tower by boat. Today the gate in
the river is closed.
Visiting the Tower today
Today the Tower is a touristic attraction and prices change depending on the
age. An adult ticket costs around £25.
There are Beefeaters , who are the Royal guards of the Tower and touristic
guides as well.
There is a legend which says that if the six ravens ever leave the Tower of
London, the White Tower will crumble and monarchy will end up.
