Shining
To juxtapose the original horror and thrilling
theme of the film, the parody shows a light-
hearted family struggling with day to day
problems and relationship issues, things you
would conventionally see in a “rom-com” this is
achieved by the happy sounding music and
friendly voice over explaining situations you
would see in a romantic comedy. The mock
trailer was colourized brighter than the original
to appear less like a horror film
Scary Mary
• This Disney Classic is soon turned around as a
horror film due to the edited shots making the
children look scared as objects move as though
they weren’t supposed to and the music in the
background is very conventional to the horror
genre and at the end of the ad is an emphasised
text saying “hide your children”. Through the
ominous music Mary Poppins was presented as
evil and malevolent as well as editing shows Mary
Poppins walking past a mirror and her reflection
remaining stationary which also appears to
frighten the children.

Clip Analysis
• Darth Vader’s Costume is very dark and the lighting is dark this shows both
anonymity and danger in his first appearance this is reinforced by his red
lightsaber which presents evil in this clip as it is juxtaposed by the
connotations of the blue lightsaber being good as it is a bright colour
showing light and hope. The camera angle shows Vader to be a leading
character shown by how his Storm-troopers appear from behind him and
how the camera is often below Vader, as he would have to look down at
the camera making him looking bigger in physical size and authority this is
reinforced by how his costume is different to that of his Storm-troopers.
The music upon Vader’s first appearance was dark and ominous further
showing him to be an evil character. The “Good guys” wear lighter clothes
and to escape the evil to go to a well lighten ship showing they approach
good and that their action are to oppose that of the evil. Before the fight,
the rebels are cooperative and supportive in their dialogue as they say
things such as “You did good” and “Look out” showing their trust in each
other making us trust them as the heroes of the story.
