“O you who believe! Fear Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and
deeds).”
(Taubah, 9:119)
 Oh you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He
will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins… (Al-Ahzab, 33: 70-71)
Rewards for the truthful
33- And he who brings the Truth and he who confirms (and
supports) it such are the men who do right.
34-They shall have all that they wish for in the presence of their
Lord: such is the reward of those who do good:
35- So that Allah will turn off from them (even) the worst in their
deeds and give them their reward according to the best of what
they have done

Hadith
 Abdullah bin Masud(RA) reported:
 The Prophet(SAW) said,
 “Truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness
leads to Paradise.
 A man will keep speaking the truth and striving to speak
the truth until he will be recorded with Allah as
a siddeeq (speaker of the truth).
 Lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to Hell
fire.
 A man will keep telling lies and striving to tell lies until he
is recorded with Allah as a liar.”
[Agreed upon].
Consequences of truth and lying
Truth

Explanation of this hadith
 Truth- truthfulness is understood when the statement
exactly matches reality.
 Statement may be made by the tongue or by the limbs.
 The statement which is made by the tongue is speech, and
the statement made by the limbs is action.
 “Righteousness” is an abundance of good
 “Al-Barr” (The Beneficent) is one of the names of
Allah, meaning (the One who is) abundant in good and
kindness, glorified and exalted.

Hadith-(GUARANTEE‫)ضمان‬
 “Guarantee for me six things and I will
guarantee Paradise for you:
1. Tell the truth when you speak,
2. Fulfill your promises,
3. Be faithful when you are trusted,
4. Safeguard your private parts,
5. Lower your gaze, and
6. Withhold your hands (from harming others)
(Reported Ubaadah-Ibn-Samit in Tirmidhi
#1260)
6 acts lead
to Jannah
1-Tell
Truth
2-Fulfill
promises
3-Keep
trust
4-Protect
private
parts
5-Lower
gaze
6=Hold
your
hand
Jannah
1.“Whenever you
speak say the
 This trait applies to the honest Muslim.
 He isn’t known to be a liar.
 He continues to speak the truth until his truthfulness lands
him in Jannah.
 The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬said:
“Truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads
to Paradise. A man will keep speaking the truth and striving
to speak the truth until he will be recorded with Allah as
a siddeeq (speaker of the truth).”
2. “Fulfil your promises
when you make them.”
 Fulfilling promises is a characteristic of the believer and a sign
among the many signs of Taqwā.
 The Muttaqeen aren’t known to break their promises or breach
their contracts, oaths or pledges.
 Completing a promise, oath or pledge is the foundation in
building a Muslim society.
 Included in this action are all trade, business and mutual
relations. Each and every one of these dealings is related to the
community.
 Hence if the promise is broken then the trust is gone; and when
that takes place, mutual relations deteriorate and respect
diminishes.
The promise is a debt
3. “When you’re entrusted with
something, carry out that trust.”
 This is among the greatest traits of character which Allah
praises.
 When a person does this action it shows he has complete faith
and good Islam.
 Carrying out trust preserves the Deen, honor, wealth, body,
soul and knowledge etc.
 The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬said:
“The believer is the one the people trust with their wealth and
life.” (Imam Ahmad)
 If trusts are carried out in the community, the unity is
strengthened and brotherhood grows stronger.
 When these things occur goodness and blessings prevail and
spread.
4. “Safeguard your
chastity.”
 “And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from
illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or (the slaves)
that their right hands possess, – for then, they are free from
blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the
transgressors.”[Al-Mu’minoon 23:5-7; al-Ma’aarij 70:29-31]
 This means you refrain from engaging in Haram intimate
relations (i.e., outside Nikah)
 Safeguarding the private parts preserves and protects the
offspring, lineage, cleans the society
 It is a security against the spread of evil and disease
5. “Lower your gaze.”
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking
at forbidden things), and protect their private parts
(from illegal sexual acts)…
[An-Nur 24:30]
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from
looking at forbidden things), and protect their private
parts (from illegal sexual acts)…
[An-Nur 24:31]
Prophet (SAW) stopped his cousin
who stared at someone
“Lower your gaze.”
 This means you don’t look at prohibited things.
 Lowering the gaze gives a person the light and sweetness
of faith.
 Furthermore, lowering the gaze strengthens the heart,
purifies the soul and sets it straight.
 Through lowering the glance a person is given a protection
against looking at Haram things and falling into sin.
6. “ Hold your hands
from harming others.”
 This means you do not harm people, transgressing against
them or placing something evil in their way.
 The person who brings harm to Allah’s creation, Allah and
the people hate and detest him.
 When a person refrains harming rather brings benefits to
others is the one with high morals, has good manners and
has Taqwah.
 Allah has prepared a great fortune for the one who doesn’t
harm people with his hands.
The siddeeq is the second
level favored by Allah
 “
 And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, these are
with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favors from
among the prophets and the truthful and the martyrs
and the good” [4:69].
Most righteous of siddeeqeen is the
most truthful
 Abu Bakr (RA) who responded to the Prophet
(SAW) when he had called him to Islam
 Prophet(SAW) called him to Islam he accepted Islam
 Believed the Prophet (SAW) when his people accused him
of lying
 He believed him when he talked about the Isra' and
Mi'raj, but the people accused him of lying
The Essence of Truthfulness
 The essence of truthfulness is that you tell the truth at the
occasion where nothing but lying would have saved you." –
(Junaid)
 Truthfulness is to proclaim the truth even at occasions of
great harm."
 It is the agreement of the inside with one's words.
 Al-Sadiq, truthful, is one whose goal truly is the pleasure
of his Lord, fulfillment of His commands, and the
following of the path that He loves -
Truthfulness in promises and
covenants.
 Promises and covenants involve saying something
about an issue to confirm that you will do it
 Those who are faithfully true to their amaanaat
(moral responsibility and trusts, etc.) and to their
covenants.” [al-Mu’minoon 23:8]
 “… and who fulfil their covenant when they make it…”
[al-Baqarah 2:177]
Ibn al-Qayyim(RA)
Madarij as-Salikeen
 Truthfulness is the greatest of stations, from it sprout all
the various stations of those traversing the path to God
 Through it is the hypocrite distinguished from the
believer
 Inhabitant of Paradise are distinguished from the denizen
of Hell.
 It is the sword of God in His earth: it is not placed on
anything except that it cuts it;
 It does not face falsehood expect that it hunts it and
vanquishes it;
 Whoever fights with it will not be defeated;
 Whoever speaks it, his word will be made supreme over his
opponent.
Ibn al Qayyim (RA)
Madarij as-Salikeen
 It is the very essence of deeds and the well spring of
spiritual states,
 It allows the person to embark boldly into dangerous
situations,
 It is the door through which one enters the presence
of the One possessing Majesty.
 It is the foundation of the building of Islam,
 The central pillar of the edifice of certainty and
 The next level in ranking after the level of prophet
hood
The Worst Lie
 The most obnoxious form of lying is falsely attributing
things to Allah and His Messenger (SAW)
 “… who does more wrong than one who invents a lie
against Allah, to lead mankind astray without
knowledge. Certainly Allah guides not the people who
are zaalimoon (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)” [al-
An’am 6:144]
Curse of Allah is upon those
who make lies against Allah
 “And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie
against Allah? Such will be brought before their Lord,
and the witnesses will say, ‘These are the ones who
lied against their Lord!’ No doubt! The curse of Allah
is on the zaalimoon (wrong-doers, oppressors, etc.).”
[Hood 11:18]
 Prophet (SAW) said in the mutawaatir hadith:
“Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his
place in Hell.” (Agreed upon)
Beware of Lying
 Prophet (SAW) said: “Beware of telling lies for lying leads to
wickedness and wickedness leads to fire. A slave of Allah
continues to lie and tires hard to lie till he is recorded as a liar
with Allah.” (Tirmidhi)
 Wickedness means to leave the obedience of Allah
 The person rebels and transgress his limits, thus, he goes from
the obedience of Allah to His disobedience
 The biggest wickedness is kufr- we seek refuge with Allah from
it
Lying leads to doubt
and confusion
 Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (RA) said: “I
memorized from the Messenger of Allah (SAW:
 ‘Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does
not make you doubt, for truthfulness is certainty and
tranquility, whilst lying is doubt and confusion.”
 (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 2520; al-Nisaa'i, 8/327; and
Ahmad, 1/200)
Lying is major sin
 The Prophet said “a man will lie”, and in a different
narration, “a man will keep telling lies and striving to
tell lies until he is recorded with Allah as a liar”, and
lying is from the forbidden things.
 Some of the scholars have said that it is from the major
sins, because the Prophet warned that the liar will be
recorded with Allah as a liar.
Lying for comedy purposes
 The Prophet warned against this in a hadith: “Woe to the
one who speaks and lies in order to make people laugh;
woe to him, woe to him.”
 This is a warning about something which is considered
very trivial by a lot of people.
Warning for the parents
 Abdullah ibn `Amir, a young Companion of the Prophet (SAW)
said: My mother called me one day when Allah's Messenger
(SAW) was in our house. She said, "Come and I will give you
something."
 Allah's Messenger asked her, "What do you intend to give
him?" She said, "I want to give him dates."
 The Prophet said, "If you were not to give him something,
your statement would be recorded against you as a
lie." (Abu Dawud)
Three exceptions
(MUSLIM)
3 Exceptions when a statement is
not counted as lying
 It is related in this hadith that there are three exceptions
to the rule of lying:
1. During war, as a tactic to create confusion for the enemy
2. When reconciling between the people,
3. When a woman speaks to her husband or a man speaks
to his wife (to enhance love in relationship)
 Some of the people of knowledge have said though that
what is meant by lying in this hadith is
tawriyah (deliberate ambiguity or exaggeration) and not
actual lying.
Tawriyah
(Deliberate ambiguity)
 Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported , that the Prophet (SAW) said
“Ibrahim did not tell a lie except on three occasions:
1. When he said: “Verily, I am sick” [Surah As-Saffaat, 89]
2. When he said, “Sarah was his sister”
3. When he said “Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it.
Ask them, if they can speak!” [Surah Al-Anbiya', 63].
 In reality, he did not lie, but rather he made tawriyah in
which he was truthful (about what he had said).
False Oath
 One severe form of lying is (for a person) to lie and
swear in order to take the people's money unjustly,
 Such a person denies a claim made against him
concerning a rightful matter by saying “by Allah I do
not owe you anything”
 Claiming what is not rightfully his and saying “you owe
me this and that” when he is lying.
 The person who swears on his claim and lies is making
the yameen ghamoos (false oath), which dips the
person in sin, and then it dips him in hell-fire, and we
seek refuge with Allah from it.
False Oath
Al-Yameen Al-Ghamoos)
False Oath
 A Bedouin came to the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ and said, "O
Allah's Messenger !What are the biggest sins?:
 The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "To join others in worship with
Allah."
 The Bedouin said, "What is next?" The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬
said, "To be undutiful to one's parents."
 The Bedouin said "What is next?" The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬
said "To take an oath 'Al-Ghamus."
 The Bedouin said, "What is an oath 'Al-Ghamus'?"
The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "The false oath through which
one deprives a Muslim of his property (unjustly)
 (Narrated Abdullah Ibn Umar, Sahih al-Bukhari 6920)
False Oath
 (1)It is narrated on the authority of Abu Umama that the
Messenger of Allah (SAW) observed: He who appropriated
the right of a Muslim by (swearing a false) oath, Allah
would make Hell-fire necessary for him and would declare
Paradise forbidden for him.
 A person said to him: Messenger of Allah, even if it is
something insignificant? He (the Holy Prophet) replied:
(Yes) even if it is the twig of the arak tree.(Sahih Muslim)
 (2)Abdullah Ibn Masud (RA) reported that the Prophet
(SAW) said: He who swears an oath in which he tells a lie
to take the property of a Muslim by unfair means, will meet
Allah while He is angry with him. (Sunan of Abu-
DawoodHadith 3237 )

Narrated Samura bin Jundub(RA): The Prophet(SAW) said, "I saw (in a
dream), two men came to me." Then the Prophet(SAW) narrated the
story (saying), "They said, 'The person, the one whose cheek you saw
being torn away (from the mouth to the ear) was a liar and used to tell
lies and the people would report those lies on his authority till they
spread all over the world. So he will be punished like that till the Day of
Resurrection."‘ (BUKHARI)
Lying is one of the
signs of NIFAQ
Narrated Abu Huraira(RA): Allah's Apostle(SAW) said,
"The signs of a hypocrite are three:
1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie;
2. Whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and
3. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays (proves to be
dishonest)". (BUKHARI)
Lying is a disease

1.“Whenever you speak saythe  This trait applies to the honest Muslim.  He isn’t known to be a liar.  He continues to speak the truth until his truthfulness lands him in Jannah.  The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬said: “Truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man will keep speaking the truth and striving to speak the truth until he will be recorded with Allah as a siddeeq (speaker of the truth).”
  • 16.
    2. “Fulfil yourpromises when you make them.”  Fulfilling promises is a characteristic of the believer and a sign among the many signs of Taqwā.  The Muttaqeen aren’t known to break their promises or breach their contracts, oaths or pledges.  Completing a promise, oath or pledge is the foundation in building a Muslim society.  Included in this action are all trade, business and mutual relations. Each and every one of these dealings is related to the community.  Hence if the promise is broken then the trust is gone; and when that takes place, mutual relations deteriorate and respect diminishes.

    3. “When you’reentrusted with something, carry out that trust.”  This is among the greatest traits of character which Allah praises.  When a person does this action it shows he has complete faith and good Islam.  Carrying out trust preserves the Deen, honor, wealth, body, soul and knowledge etc.  The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬said: “The believer is the one the people trust with their wealth and life.” (Imam Ahmad)  If trusts are carried out in the community, the unity is strengthened and brotherhood grows stronger.  When these things occur goodness and blessings prevail and spread.

    4. “Safeguard your chastity.” “And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or (the slaves) that their right hands possess, – for then, they are free from blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.”[Al-Mu’minoon 23:5-7; al-Ma’aarij 70:29-31]  This means you refrain from engaging in Haram intimate relations (i.e., outside Nikah)  Safeguarding the private parts preserves and protects the offspring, lineage, cleans the society  It is a security against the spread of evil and disease

    5. “Lower yourgaze.”  َ‫ف‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ي‬ َ‫و‬ ْ‫م‬ِ‫ه‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫ص‬ْ‫ب‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ ‫وا‬ُّ‫ض‬ُ‫غ‬َ‫ي‬ َ‫ين‬ِ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ِِّ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ُ‫ق‬ْ‫م‬ََُُ‫و‬ُ‫ر‬ُ‫ف‬ ‫وا‬ُ‫ُظ‬ Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)… [An-Nur 24:30]  َ‫و‬ َّ‫ن‬ِ‫ه‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫ص‬ْ‫ب‬َ‫أ‬ ْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ َ‫ن‬ْ‫ض‬ُ‫ض‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫ي‬ ِ‫ت‬‫َا‬‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ْ‫ؤ‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ِِّ‫ل‬ ‫ل‬ُ‫ق‬ َ‫و‬َّ‫ن‬ََُُ‫و‬ُ‫ر‬ُ‫ف‬ َ‫ن‬ْ‫ُظ‬َ‫ف‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ي‬ And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)… [An-Nur 24:31]

  • 22.
“Lower your gaze.” This means you don’t look at prohibited things.  Lowering the gaze gives a person the light and sweetness of faith.  Furthermore, lowering the gaze strengthens the heart, purifies the soul and sets it straight.  Through lowering the glance a person is given a protection against looking at Haram things and falling into sin.
  • 23.
    6. “ Holdyour hands from harming others.”  This means you do not harm people, transgressing against them or placing something evil in their way.  The person who brings harm to Allah’s creation, Allah and the people hate and detest him.  When a person refrains harming rather brings benefits to others is the one with high morals, has good manners and has Taqwah.  Allah has prepared a great fortune for the one who doesn’t harm people with his hands.

The siddeeq isthe second level favored by Allah  “  And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, these are with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favors from among the prophets and the truthful and the martyrs and the good” [4:69].
  • 28.
Most righteous ofsiddeeqeen is the most truthful  Abu Bakr (RA) who responded to the Prophet (SAW) when he had called him to Islam  Prophet(SAW) called him to Islam he accepted Islam  Believed the Prophet (SAW) when his people accused him of lying  He believed him when he talked about the Isra' and Mi'raj, but the people accused him of lying
  • 29.
The Essence ofTruthfulness  The essence of truthfulness is that you tell the truth at the occasion where nothing but lying would have saved you." – (Junaid)  Truthfulness is to proclaim the truth even at occasions of great harm."  It is the agreement of the inside with one's words.  Al-Sadiq, truthful, is one whose goal truly is the pleasure of his Lord, fulfillment of His commands, and the following of the path that He loves -
  • 30.
Truthfulness in promisesand covenants.  Promises and covenants involve saying something about an issue to confirm that you will do it  Those who are faithfully true to their amaanaat (moral responsibility and trusts, etc.) and to their covenants.” [al-Mu’minoon 23:8]  “… and who fulfil their covenant when they make it…” [al-Baqarah 2:177]

Ibn al-Qayyim(RA) Madarij as-Salikeen Truthfulness is the greatest of stations, from it sprout all the various stations of those traversing the path to God  Through it is the hypocrite distinguished from the believer  Inhabitant of Paradise are distinguished from the denizen of Hell.  It is the sword of God in His earth: it is not placed on anything except that it cuts it;  It does not face falsehood expect that it hunts it and vanquishes it;  Whoever fights with it will not be defeated;  Whoever speaks it, his word will be made supreme over his opponent.
  • 32.
Ibn al Qayyim(RA) Madarij as-Salikeen  It is the very essence of deeds and the well spring of spiritual states,  It allows the person to embark boldly into dangerous situations,  It is the door through which one enters the presence of the One possessing Majesty.  It is the foundation of the building of Islam,  The central pillar of the edifice of certainty and  The next level in ranking after the level of prophet hood

The Worst Lie The most obnoxious form of lying is falsely attributing things to Allah and His Messenger (SAW)  “… who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah, to lead mankind astray without knowledge. Certainly Allah guides not the people who are zaalimoon (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)” [al- An’am 6:144]
  • 35.
Curse of Allahis upon those who make lies against Allah  “And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah? Such will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, ‘These are the ones who lied against their Lord!’ No doubt! The curse of Allah is on the zaalimoon (wrong-doers, oppressors, etc.).” [Hood 11:18]  Prophet (SAW) said in the mutawaatir hadith: “Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.” (Agreed upon)
  • 36.
Beware of Lying Prophet (SAW) said: “Beware of telling lies for lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to fire. A slave of Allah continues to lie and tires hard to lie till he is recorded as a liar with Allah.” (Tirmidhi)  Wickedness means to leave the obedience of Allah  The person rebels and transgress his limits, thus, he goes from the obedience of Allah to His disobedience  The biggest wickedness is kufr- we seek refuge with Allah from it
  • 37.
Lying leads todoubt and confusion  Al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (RA) said: “I memorized from the Messenger of Allah (SAW:  ‘Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt, for truthfulness is certainty and tranquility, whilst lying is doubt and confusion.”  (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 2520; al-Nisaa'i, 8/327; and Ahmad, 1/200)
  • 38.
Lying is majorsin  The Prophet said “a man will lie”, and in a different narration, “a man will keep telling lies and striving to tell lies until he is recorded with Allah as a liar”, and lying is from the forbidden things.  Some of the scholars have said that it is from the major sins, because the Prophet warned that the liar will be recorded with Allah as a liar.
  • 39.
Lying for comedypurposes  The Prophet warned against this in a hadith: “Woe to the one who speaks and lies in order to make people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.”  This is a warning about something which is considered very trivial by a lot of people.
  • 40.
Warning for theparents  Abdullah ibn `Amir, a young Companion of the Prophet (SAW) said: My mother called me one day when Allah's Messenger (SAW) was in our house. She said, "Come and I will give you something."  Allah's Messenger asked her, "What do you intend to give him?" She said, "I want to give him dates."  The Prophet said, "If you were not to give him something, your statement would be recorded against you as a lie." (Abu Dawud)

  • 43.
3 Exceptions whena statement is not counted as lying  It is related in this hadith that there are three exceptions to the rule of lying: 1. During war, as a tactic to create confusion for the enemy 2. When reconciling between the people, 3. When a woman speaks to her husband or a man speaks to his wife (to enhance love in relationship)  Some of the people of knowledge have said though that what is meant by lying in this hadith is tawriyah (deliberate ambiguity or exaggeration) and not actual lying.
  • 44.
Tawriyah (Deliberate ambiguity)  AbuHurayrah (RA) reported , that the Prophet (SAW) said “Ibrahim did not tell a lie except on three occasions: 1. When he said: “Verily, I am sick” [Surah As-Saffaat, 89] 2. When he said, “Sarah was his sister” 3. When he said “Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!” [Surah Al-Anbiya', 63].  In reality, he did not lie, but rather he made tawriyah in which he was truthful (about what he had said).
  • 45.
False Oath  Onesevere form of lying is (for a person) to lie and swear in order to take the people's money unjustly,  Such a person denies a claim made against him concerning a rightful matter by saying “by Allah I do not owe you anything”  Claiming what is not rightfully his and saying “you owe me this and that” when he is lying.  The person who swears on his claim and lies is making the yameen ghamoos (false oath), which dips the person in sin, and then it dips him in hell-fire, and we seek refuge with Allah from it.
  • 46.
  • 47.
False Oath  ABedouin came to the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ and said, "O Allah's Messenger !What are the biggest sins?:  The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "To join others in worship with Allah."  The Bedouin said, "What is next?" The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "To be undutiful to one's parents."  The Bedouin said "What is next?" The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said "To take an oath 'Al-Ghamus."  The Bedouin said, "What is an oath 'Al-Ghamus'?" The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "The false oath through which one deprives a Muslim of his property (unjustly)  (Narrated Abdullah Ibn Umar, Sahih al-Bukhari 6920)
  • 48.
False Oath  (1)Itis narrated on the authority of Abu Umama that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) observed: He who appropriated the right of a Muslim by (swearing a false) oath, Allah would make Hell-fire necessary for him and would declare Paradise forbidden for him.  A person said to him: Messenger of Allah, even if it is something insignificant? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: (Yes) even if it is the twig of the arak tree.(Sahih Muslim)  (2)Abdullah Ibn Masud (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: He who swears an oath in which he tells a lie to take the property of a Muslim by unfair means, will meet Allah while He is angry with him. (Sunan of Abu- DawoodHadith 3237 )

Narrated Samura bin Jundub(RA): The Prophet(SAW) said, "I saw (in a dream), two men came to me." Then the Prophet(SAW) narrated the story (saying), "They said, 'The person, the one whose cheek you saw being torn away (from the mouth to the ear) was a liar and used to tell lies and the people would report those lies on his authority till they spread all over the world. So he will be punished like that till the Day of Resurrection."‘ (BUKHARI)

Lying is oneof the signs of NIFAQ Narrated Abu Huraira(RA): Allah's Apostle(SAW) said, "The signs of a hypocrite are three: 1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; 2. Whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and 3. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays (proves to be dishonest)". (BUKHARI)
