Unit I - Human Resource Management
HRM
HRM refers to acquisition, retention, motivation and maintenance of Human Resource in an
organization.
HRM is the planning, organising, directing & controlling of the procurement, development,
compensation integration, maintenance and separation of human resources to the end that
individual, organizational and social objectives are accomplished.
HRM is a study about the people in the organization-how they are hired, trained, compensated,
motivated & maintained.
Human resources management (HRM) is a management function concerned with hiring,
motivating and maintaining people in an organization. It focuses on people in organizations.
Human resource management is designing management systems to ensure that human talent is
used effectively and efficiently to accomplish organizational goals.

Objectives of HRM
Societal objectives
o To acquire work-life-balance
o To create good relationship between the workers
o To having friendly climate ex: Same uniform, canteen, bus facilities for all etc.
o To give welfare to their family too
o To give welfare to the surrounding community ex: CSR
Organizational objectives
o To improve the production and reduce the wastage
o To reduce absenteeism
o To retain the population
o To gain profit
Functional objectives
o To motivate the employee (Appraisal)
o To search the talent persons and the right candidates (recruitment)
o To evaluate the employees (promotion or deletion)
Personal objectives
o To earn decent living salary in better working environment.
o To get job satisfaction.
o To enjoy the welfare facilities (water, canteen etc)
o To gain professional growth/career growth.

Challenging role of Human Resource Manager
o Globalization
Day by day the new cultures/concepts have been developing in and around the world. As the
HR manager have to adopt those culture/concepts and train each and every employee to attain
efficiently and effectively the organizational goals.
Ex, Six sigma, TPM, TQM, 5s, etc
o Technology
Now-a-days technology plays a vital role in the management (Industry). These technologies
assure safety at the work place, bring quality in production, enable profit, reduce rework
percentage, maintains all records neatly, easy to access any time, etc.
Ex, SAP is the German technology, 5s is the Japanese Technology, etc
o Merging the company
One company is buying other company which is going in loss, and after buying it, the
occupier adopts his own culture to enhance the possible profit.
Ex, Hamam and Rexona
o Acquisition the company
One company buys the other company and it changes the brand quality without changing the
company name.
Ex, ATC and ITC
o Outsourcing
Consultants are called to maintain all the company data.
Ex, canteen, uniform etc
o Workforce diversity
To reduce absenteeism, managing the manpower, improve the skills of the employees, etc.
everything can be changed only if we give proper training to them.
