Unit 15 – Print Based Advertising - Magazine Back page Advertisement
Project:
The Golden Hour
Project title: Magazine Back page Advertisement
Reasons behind the title inside this box (connotations)
I decided on this title for my festival poster because, the term ā€˜The Golden Hour’
implies that the public has the freedom in seeking enlightenment in the form of
music, art and technology.
I have chosen the title name as this will convey that my target audience can have
the opportunity of self-expression based on their creative personality, along with
being memorable, eye-catching and recognisable to the general public and to my
target audience, as well as enjoy the festival throughout the day into the night.
Project Description:
In comparison to my music festival poster, my magazine back page
advertisement would be suitable for a A4 page size.
Therefore, I am planning to take some outdoor photos which would contrast
against my studio photographs and present my print based media products in
both the female and male form and presented to the general public.
Photographer: Patrice. Insua
ā Who is it going to be?
I plan to take my own photos with the use of the timer setting on my Canon
camera, with the usefulness of taking my own photos I am able to control the
lighting, position of the model and the placement of the camera and the
expression that will complete the poster.
ā Technical Codes - What shot types and Angles do they need and WHY?
Mainly aiming for portrait shots that would give dimension to the poster as this
would make it stand out. I am also aiming for the angle of eye-level to present the
full perspective of the portrait and capture the detail and expression.
ā Lighting – High Key (Bright) or Low Key
I prefer to either use natural lighting for studio lighting for my images; however I
plan to experiment with both lighting to therefore give a clear comparison and
suggest which ones would be easy to edit in Photoshop.
ā Post Production – Effects you intend to apply and WHY?
I intent to use photos that would suit my print based product of inspiration and
would relate to the term ā€œFit for Purposeā€; as such the purpose for my festival
poster is to be visually appealing and be eye-catching towards my target
audience.

Casting:
Reasons behind WHY these people/images are suitable – Who do they look like?
I person how I have decided to taken photos of will be myself (Patrice Insua) as I
plan to take photos that would suit the theme of my music festival. I chose myself
to take and model my own photographs as I wanted to present the form of
independence and creativity in relation to my music poster.
The reason as to why this is suitable for my poster is that my festival is based on
a summer theme during the summer holidays and therefore, a model is tanned
skin and thick straight hair would be easy to model and edit later in the
developing process.
Model requirements:
I have no model requirements for my festival poster because my print based
product is targeted to a large target audience who would share the same
interests and is aimed to both genders.
Wardrobe and Look:
ā Why these items?
I have chosen to include the prop of rose gold beat headphones as this would
create a bold contrast against the colour scheme that I plan to use in my poster. I
have also the clothing idea of a summer themed dress that would create the
spring/ summer themed mood.
ā Source of inspiration?
I came across this inspiration through the use of many festival posters having a
faded edge around an image/ background and I thought that this would be a
good idea to experiment with. In relation to the name of my festival the rose gold
beats and tinted yellow lighting works well for my poster.
Hair and Makeup:
ā What Hair & Makeup do you need to use?
To enhance the magazine further, I have decided on a straight hairstyle which
would be easier to edit in Photoshop in the developing process, although i have
decided to go for a natural makeup look that would suit the lighting and narrow
down the focal point of the rose gold beat headphones of the portrait.
ā Why? Source of inspiration?
I was inspired by the summer music festival Coachella where in my LO1 I created
a mood board of inspiration and I have gained the knowledge that the colours
and fashion style suits the summer festival theme.
