This document discusses ethics and intercultural communication. It defines ethics as judging ends and means, and means as behaviors to achieve ends. It notes means and ends can collide if the means are unethical. It lists universals for ethical intercultural communication including mutuality, nonjudgmentalism, honesty, and respect. It discusses self-reflection on motivation, knowledge, and attitudes when interacting with other cultures. It also discusses reflecting on displaying respect, interaction management, ambiguity tolerance, and empathy. Finally, it discusses levels of intercultural competence from unconscious incompetence to unconscious competence.
