Pre-

1. Scripting and captioning research for part
two of Photoshop tutorial.
2. Researching tutorials – codes and
conventions for part two of the
Photoshop tutorial.
3. Storyboarding research, for part two of
the Photoshop tutorial.
1. I will do some research online to develop the skills of
writing scripts and adding captions. I will also watch online
tutorials about how to write a script and also how to be
better at captioning, reading specialist books about it and
asking other people who would know more about this
then me.
2. Because my theme is a Photoshop tutorial, and my genre is
a documentary style video. I will do research online about
what kind of code should a documentary have. I could also
watch some online tutorials, read specialist books and ask
other people about this subject.
3. For my part of the video, I could watch some online
tutorials about how to present a professional looking
storyboard so that other people who look at my
storyboard and know what to do. I could also do some
research in specialist books about storyboarding. I will also
practice making storyboards and get feedback from my
group members. So I can improve my storyboards along
side the feedback given to me.
1. In the final version of the video, you would be able to see
if the script is carefully written or not just by listening to
the video. I will evidence the captions by having constant
captions throughout the entire part of the video with the
same house style as the rest of my group. This will be
evidenced inside of task 3 as well.
2. I will evidence the codes and conventions by having
them in the final version of the video. Our video is going
to have a documentary style to it, the video is going to
show me talking to a camera for some of my part of the
video. The codes and conventions would be similar to
the online tutorials I have watched on YouTube.
3. I will evidence the storyboard skills developing by
showing the final version of my storyboard, if I have not
yet done my research the storyboard would look terrible
and undone. If I have it would look professional and if
someone else looks at it they would be able to know
what to do with the video. I will also have camera shots
and angles in my final version of the video that match
the instructions on storyboard.

6. Camera shots and angles research for part

4. For developing basic Movie Maker skills, I could play

basic knowledge for Movie Maker. I could also do some
research online about Movie Maker. Making V1 of my video
would also help me improve my basic movie maker skills.
5. I could ask people in my group that would definitely know
more about online tutorials to recommend some online
tutorials for me to watch. Or I could also search online for the
best online tutorials.
6. Camera angles and shots – I will go to mediaknowall.com
to learn the camera angles and camera shots, if I still don’t
know yet, I am going to ask other people in my group that
know more about this than I do. This is very important for a
documentary.
4. My Movie Maker skills are going to be evidenced by
showing the final version of the video, it would look like it
was done by someone who knew what they were doing
because I have done my research about basic Movie Maker
skills.
5. My identifying of online tutorials would be evidenced by
showing the final version of the video, if I have identified
very good tutorials my part of the video should look the
same. It will also be evidenced in task 1 of unit 3, where I
evidence everything I research online, including online
Photoshop tutorials.
6. I would evidence my camera angles and camera shots by
showing them in the final version of my part of the

1. I could search online for transitions and effect tutorials to
improve my skills on adding them. I could also just play

Sites like mediaknowall.com and lifewire.com can be used
to boost my knowledge of transitions and visual effects.
2. Before I take the images myself I will search online for
tutorials on YouTube, there are also a lot of specialist
books about photography I could look at and improve my
skills with. There are a lot of sites online like
mediaknowall.com and photographymad.com to improve
my knowledge of the rule of thirds.
3. I could use the specialist books about photography again
for camera shots and angles to improve my knowledge for
this skill, I could also search online for YouTube tutorials
about camera shots and angles and photography websites.
4. I could search online for tutorials since it is what people on
YouTube do, they would have a lot of experience with
image, sound and video importing, I could also ask other
people in my group seeing that they also have experience
with posting videos on YouTube.
5. I could do research by searching for online tutorials about
adding sound effects, music and narration on windows

who have way more experience on windows movie maker
than me.
1. This going to be evidenced in part two of the final
version of the video. If I had done my research, the final
version should have well timed transitions and effects as
well.
2. There will be still images in task 3 that I can evidence my
rule of thirds with, in the final version of the part two I
make there will also be shots were I have used the rule
of thirds.
3. Again, there will be still images in task 3 which I could
evidence both rule of thirds and camera shots and
angles. There will be shots in part two of our Photoshop
tutorial which would show the results in my research. I
will aim to show a range of camera shots e.g. medium
shots. I will also aim to show different camera angles like
the eye level shot. In my video, there is a part where I am
being filmed by the camera, I am going to use this to
evidence it.
4. In the final version of the video, you would be able to see
the imported images, hear the sounds. The videos would
be put together to become the final version of part two.
5. In the final version of part two of our Photoshop
tutorial, you would be able to hear the sound effects,
music(which would be in the lo-fi hip-hop genre), and
narration for part two.

3. Optimisation for the web.
4. Looking for little mistakes such as

copyright information etc..
1. I will develop this skill by searching for suitable online tutorials about
editing, audio, sound and transitions, I could also ask other people
on my group who know what they are doing because they post
videos on YouTube regularly.
2. I will need to be able to know how to compress a video so that the
file does not get too big. I will also need to know how to add
subtitles to a video on YouTube for people who want to watch our
video but can’t hear properly or whosever sound isn’t working. Last
of all I will need to know how to make the video suitable for each
and every device that has access to the video. I can develop these
skills and techniques by searching online for suitable tutorials and
also asking the other people in my group.
3. To make the video as best as it can be for the internet, I will have to
learn how to compress the video, so that the file size isn’t too big,
but also not to a point where the quality of the audio and the
graphic aren’t too low. I will develop these skills by searching for
suitable online tutorials for these techniques and also, there is a help
button in Movie Maker I can ask for help in that would take me
straight to the Windows websites. The reason why I have to do this is
because year 9 students coming up would generally all own a phone,
computer and a tablet.
4. Looking for little mistakes in a video can be tricky for someone like
me without any video making experience. So, to improve my mistake
spotting skills, I am going to need to search for online tutorials that
can help me improve, I could also look for blogs of people who
specialise in looking for mistakes in videos or movies before they are
published. The feedback from my group can also be very helpful to
my skill developing.
1. My final version of the video will evidence these skills in
the final version of this video. If I have done my research
and have developed the basic skills of editing, adding titles,
effects, audio & sound effects and transitions, the video
would be ready to publish onto YouTube.
2. I will be able to evidence these techniques in the final
version in the video. If I had done my research and learnt
these basic techniques, my final video would have captions
and would be easy to understand even with the sound off. I
will also make sure that there is no SPaG error in the
captions.
3. I will be able to evidence this in the final version of our
Photoshop tutorial. If I had done my research for
optimising the video for the internet. It should be in it’s
best form when uploaded onto the Hove Park School
YouTube channel.
4. To evidence this I will need to be able to show the final
version of part two of our Photoshop tutorial without any
mistakes in it. If I had done my research for this part two
should not have any mistakes in it.

Skill (Camera shots and angles)
Description of
Strengths

about strengths.
I can identify different camera shots and different camera angles, for example, there is the extreme long shot, the long shot, the medium shot, the close up shot and the
extreme close up shot, for the angles I know the birds eye view, the high level view, the eye level view and the low level view. I did this by doing a lot of research online and
searching specifically for camera shots and angles YouTube tutorials. I have added a few camera shots and angles into my video. It was hard because the majority of our
group video is a virtual recording, so I had to film a video of myself talking to the audience, because I thought that just virtual recordings would drive the target audience
away because they might find it boring. The recording of myself has a eye level view and is a medium shot.
Areas I need to
develop
I need to develop the amount of camera shots and angles in my video. For now there is only one kind of camera shot and one camera angle in the whole video. If I want my
video to look professional, I will need to add more camera shots and angles, including long shots, and high angle shots etc.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
The target I am going to set for myself is to film more parts with actual camera shots and angles, because now, the only camera angle in my video is the eye level shot, and
the only camera shot is the medium shot.
The reason why I have chosen this target is to show of my knowledge of camera shots and angles, otherwise I would not meet the brief, which says that you need to show
off what you learn inside your video.
Evaluate

Before I started learning about camera shots and camera angles, I gave myself a grade 5+. A grade 5+ means I did not know anything about this skill at all. In the middle of
the course, when we started making our videos, I would have given myself a 3-, which means I knew somethings about camera shots and angles. Now, after I have finished
the video, listened to the feedback that my class had for my part of the video and then improved it, I would give myself a grade 2+. A grade 2+ means that I know quite a lot
about this skill but there is still some space for some improvement. Today on the 28th November 2017, I grade myself a grade 1-, and I compared my video with professional
ones on YouTube, like 15 Essential Camera Shots, Angles and Movements made by wolfcrow, a video that teaches you about camera shots and angles and only look at the
camera shots and angles, I think that my camera shots and angles skills are not too far behind.

Camera shots and angles evidence
Before I made the improvement, the camera angle for the small
intro I had for my part of the video. As you can see, it is an eye
level view here, I thought that might look a bit dull for the viewers
who are in year nine and are coming up to year ten at the Nevil
campus. So I changed it to the one below. I graded myself a 4+
here because I wasn’t very good at camera shots and angles.
I changed the dull looking eye level camera view to a
oblique/canted angle to make it a more unique looking scene for
the viewers. It still looks a bit weird now but I changed the font of
the title to make it more appropriate according to our house style.
I grade myself a 2+ here because I think I am good at camera shots
and angles but I think I still have some room for improvement.

Description of
Strengths

about strengths.
We started learning about the rule of thirds on the 2nd of may, I am now able to use the rule of thirds myself and also able to spot it when someone else is using the skill. I
included the rule of thirds in my part of the video. In the video, I am in the left of the screen and nearly towards the bottom. The whole point of the rule of thirds is so that
the picture or image does not look so dull. Moving the main focus of the photo to one of the corners of the picture makes the image more soothing to the eye of the viewer,
and that is one of the things we want for our video, to attract more viewers and to stop viewers from leaving because of the quality of the video.
Areas I need to
develop
Again, I need to add more scenes in my video where it is me talking to the camera, seeing that all the other parts in our entire video are virtual recordings except for one
part of my video, if I want to show of how I have improved during this time, I am going to have to film a lot more shots using the skill of rule pf thirds.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
I am going to film more recordings of myself talking to the camera, and also use more rule of thirds in those recordings.
The reason this target is justified is because again, in the brief it says that we should show of a range of skills that we learnt throughout the course to the target audience
who are year 9s coming up to year 10. Generally year 9s would not have enough attention to last an entire 12 minute video of a recording of a screen. So a few more
recordings of someone speaking might catch their attention and they would watch the entire video.
Evaluate

this skill and

Before the 2nd of may, the day where we learnt about camera shots and angles and the rule of thirds, I did not know what the rule of thirds were at all, so I graded myself a
5, which means I did not know anything about the rule of thirds. Halfway through the course, I found myself getting use to the skill of using the rule of thirds for taking
pictures and videos, so I would have graded myself a 4+. But now, having finished my video and done my improvements, I would say that I am a grade 3+, which means I
know this skill and I still need to improve on it a lot. If today, the 28th November, 2017, I compared my video to a professionally made video called The Rule Of Thirds, it was
published on to YouTube by WeeklyImogen, tis is a video teaching you how to use the skill of the rule of thirds. I only compared the use of the rule of thirds, I think the
video on YouTube is a lot better due to the fact that it has a lot more usage of the rule of thirds.

Rule of thirds evidence
This shot was in the first version of my video, it looks like that
because I put the Sepia visual effect on it to make it look like an old
documentary tape, but I thought I was a bit too far to the left of the
screen. I thought the viewers might be put off the video a bit
because of that mistake. Here, I graded myself a 4-, because I wasn’t
vary good at this skill yet.
Before
After
This is the same shot but in version two of my part of the video.
The things I changed about this shot were: I got rid of the visual
effects to make this shot the same with my groups house style. The
major change about this shot though, is that I zoomed into the
video with a software called iMovie, and then I moved myself
closer to the centre of the screen. I grade myself a 3+, because I
think I know a few things about rule of thirds and still can improve
a lot.
I also tried to make every person that is in my video slightly off
centre to the screen, this will make my part of the video more
soothing to the eye for the viewers.

Skill (Captions)
Description of
Strengths
Write quality

about strengths.
We first learnt about captioning when it was the 2nd of May. To add captions is to add a description of something in the video usually in the side of the screen. The caption
may be for instructions for the viewer, a social media link or just a reminder of something the video maker forgot to mention while filming the video. I originally added a
few captions into my video, but the font type was not the agreed font type, the way the captions came out in the video was also not how they appeared in the other parts
of the video. So after the feedback lesson we did, I changed the font type to the agreed one and also the way the captions appeared on the video.
Areas I need to
develop
I think I still need to add some more captions into my part of the video. In the other two parts of the video that my group mates have made, they have added a lot more
captions then I have, and the brief states that I need to show off the skills I have learnt in the course inside my final video.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
The target I will have to reach is to add more captions in my part of the video, including some social media links e.g. the Hove Park School Twitter page or the Hove Park
School newsletter, and just some overall information that I may have forgotten to tell the viewer when I made the video or was to quiet when saying it.
The reason why I have chosen to improve with this target is to make the video as clear to the audience (who are year nines coming up to the upper school as year tens) as
possible. Because if a Logo Photoshop tutorial is not clear about the steps you need to take to make a logo, it would not help at all for people who want to make a logo in
Photoshop.

Before we started learning about adding captions, I did not really know anything about this skill, so I gave myself a grade 4-. In the middle of the course, I had leant how to

These are some examples of the changes I made between version one of my video
and version two of my video for the captions. In version one, the font was just the
default font that was given to you when you use a text box. It was said to be to simple
and not the same house style as the rest of the video in our classes feedback session.
After that I changed the font to the agreed font called “PayBack” witch matches the
house style and would look more interesting to the viewers. I also added a lot more
captions due to the fact that my voice was not that clear in the video and I thought
the viewers might not hear me well enough. Below are some more examples of the
captions I changed. I grade myself a 2 for captions because I think I am quite good at
adding captions and I only have a little more room for improvement.

about strengths.
A visual effect is added into the video after it is filmed. There are a lot of different kinds of visual effects, in my version one of the video, I put in a visual effect that made the
video look like an old tape playing. I had to remove that visual effect because it did not match the house style of our groups video. Usually when you use a visual effect it is to
make the video fit in to the genre of your theme, our goal for our video is to make it a documentary themed Hove Park Logo Photoshop tutorial, so that’s why I added the
visual effect that makes the video seem old, to make it look like an old documentary.
Areas I need to
develop
Like I said I had to remove the first visual effect I added in the first version of my video. So I will have to discuss with the people on my group about adding more visual
effects to our video to stop it from looking too bland. If I don’t manage to put any visual effects in, the video, would not meet the success criteria because it states that I
need to show off the range of skills I learnt within the course.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
The target to improve this skill is for me to practice using visual effects on movie maker until I get the effect that I find is perfect for our video, then I am going to discuss
with my group members about adding that visual effect into our video.
If I get good at adding visual effects into their suitable places, I will be able to use that skill to add more visual effects into our video, again, in the brief it says that we should
try to show off the skills we learnt during the course as much as possible.

from the whole class, I give myself a grade 2+ for visual effects, a grade 2+ means that I already know a let about this skill and there is still some space for improvements. I
compared the visual effects of my part of the video to a professionally made video on YouTube today, the 28th November 2017, called Windows Live Movie Maker - Adding
Effects and made by a channel called mahalodotcom, this video teaches you how to use basic transitions and inside the video, there is also a lot of usage of transitions you
can see in movie maker. The video from is much better because I don’t have any visual effects in my video.

In version one of my part of the video, I put the visual effect “Sepia” into the part of my video where I talk to the camera. I did that to make the video seem more like an old
documentary, because our video theme is a documentary. When we viewed our videos I was told that the sepia visual effect did not match the house style of our whole video.
So, I had to delete these visual effect and now my video does not have any visual effects, which is something I hope to improve in the future. I do not really consider this as an
improvement, because I removed the only visual effects I had in my part of the video, but is was to match the house style of our video. I grade myself a grade 3 for visual effects
because I think I am still not very good at this skill and I have to work harder to improve it.
Before After
These are just some examples
in my experimentation to find a
new visual effect, but I
eventually just stopped and
decided not use a visual effect.

Skill (Slow and fast motion)
Description of
Strengths
Write quality
judgements
about strengths.
Slow motions is an effect that slows down the video to the chosen amount of speed, it is usually done to create a dramatic effect in movies and other videos. Fast motion,
is used to speed up a video at the chosen speed, it is usually used to speed up a part of the video that the editor might think the viewer would find boring e.g. walking a
long distance or going up stairs. I have not got any slow motion bits in my part of the video, but in the title bit and the little outro I have got, it is sped up by x1.5. I thought
it would be nice to have a bit of an intro with me filming myself walking into school, the little outro I have is of me walking out of the school, I did this because the next part
of the video made by Scott starts off with a picture of the front of the school, and it would connect to his part well.
Areas I need to
develop
One area I want to develop is to add a slow motion sequence to my part of the video, but it is going to be quite hard since most of my part is a recording of screen, so I
think I am going to have to film a few more scenes so I can use slow motion. The goal is to put both slow and fast motion into our videos, so it would not meet the brief if I
only put in fast motion.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
My target to improve this skill is to film more videos for me to experiment with, the more I experiment with slow and fast motion, the better I get at this skill and the better
I can make my video to have all the skills I learnt in the course.
I chose this target to do because I need to improve on my slow and fast motion to find out how to add a slow motion sequence into my video. I want to add a slow motion
sequence because the brief says to show off the skills you learnt during the course.

Before I started learning about slow and fast motion on the 17th of May, I already knew a few things about them. I gave myself a grade 3-, which means I knew some things
about this skill, and in the middle of the course, I made my first version of the video, and I gave myself a grade 2-, which means I knew a lot about this skill but there was
still room for improvement, but now that I have made the second version of the video with the improvements made, I give myself a grade 2+. I compared this with a video
on YouTube called Windows Live Movie Maker - Use Slow Motion And Speed up Effect, it was published onto YouTube by Jshawnotutorials Jones, my video would be a bit
behind due to the fact that I do not have any slow motion inside my part of the video and in the tutorial he shows off a lot of videos he has made in movie maker with both
slow and fast motion.

Slow / fast motion evidence
In version one of my part of the video, the small intro bit was too quick for
everyone who viewed our video. At the time it was at the speed of x1, and
the viewer could not read the title correctly because the speed was too fast.
In version two of my part of the video however, I changed the speed to
x0.5. This makes the video slower and the text easier to read for the
viewers. I only did this to the intro bit of my video, and the outro bit,
otherwise the video would take to much of a long time to play.
This happened to the outro bit as well, even though that in the first
version of the video there was no text in the outro, my classmates still
said that it was still too fast and that I should add text to it as well. So I
did, I changed the sped to 0.5 so that it did not go that fast and the
audience could read what I said.
I grade myself a grade 3- in slow and fast motion only because I used it
in my video.

Skill (Transitions)
Description of
Strengths

about strengths.
Transitions are a very important part of a video, as they are used to move from one scene of the video to another, so it is crucial where you put the transition and the timing
of the transition must be exact as well, otherwise parts of your video would be cut off by the length of the transitions. If done correctly, the transitions can make a video
look very professional. I have a few transitions in my video, but because of timing issues, I cannot add in to many transitions otherwise I would have a very short and messy
video.
Areas I need to
develop
I need to find a way to add more transitions in, because now, there are only two transitions at the very start and the very end of my part of the video. I need to find a way to
add more into my video without cutting any essential bits out.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
I will just have to practice even more on movie maker to get good at adding transitions in videos so that they do not cause the video to get all messed up like they did
before, maybe even film more bits for myself to use transitions on to show off my range of knowledge for transitions.
The reason why I have chosen this target is so that can fix my part of the video. I do not want the viewers to think that the video was put together poorly, so I am going to
improve the skill of adding transitions and then improve my part of the video.
Evaluate

Before we started learning about adding transitions on the second of may, I did not really know a lot about this skill, so I gave myself a grade 4-. In the middle of the course,
I had leant how to add captions in movie maker, I gave myself a grade 3+, which means that I know some things about this skill but still had a lot of space for improvements.
Now, I have finished making my video and done my improvements, I would give myself a grade 2-, which means I know a lot about adding transitions but there is just a few
more improvements I will be able to make. I compared my part of the video to a professionally made video on YouTube called Windows Live Movie Maker - Adding
Transitions, it was made and published by mahalodotcom, and it shows you how to add basic transitions to your video on Windows move maker. My video is slightly behind
in transitions, because I only have two in my part of the video so far.

Transition evidence
For the first improvement, this is the transition
between the intro of my part of the video, and
the part where I talk to the camera. I personally
don’t really like the first transition. It was also
mentioned in the feedback session that the
transition did not look very good inside my video.
So I changed it to the fade into black transition,
not only does the fade into black transition looks
very nice in my video, it also matches our group’s
house style. I did the same thing with the outro,
except that the starting transition was the fade
out to black transition, it took too long and the
video was cut because of that. So I changed the
transition into a blur.
I grade myself a 3 for transitions because I still
think that I need to strengthen my skills a lot
before I can give myself a higher grade.

Skill (Adding music / narration / sound effects)
Description of
Strengths

about strengths.
Adding music was one of the first things I did after I filmed my video, although I had to change the music after the feedback lesson because it was pointed out that there
was a part where a man sings in the video and it cover my voice. For a narration I spoke into my camera’s microphone as I recorded, so I did not use a proper microphone to
record the narration. For sound effects I added a cork opening sound every time a caption popped up, but as I changed the captions and the way they appeared, I deleted
the sound effects alongside.
Areas I need to
develop
I need to record a proper narration for my video, because the narration I have got now might be too quiet for the target audience to hear, but if I manage to turn the
volume up a bit more, I would not need to do that. The second area I need o develop would be the sound effects, I really need to add sound effects to my part of the video,
because now, I do not have any inside since I deleted them when I changed the captions.
Target to
improve this skill
Justifying why
you have chosen
this target
My target to improve these skills would be to experiment with adding different music to the video and seeing if they fit or match the video. For the sound effects I am going
to see if there are any sound effects on Sound Bible that I can put into my part of the video. I need to put them in, otherwise I won’ be able to meet the brief because I
don’t have any sound effects in my video so far.
I think this target is justified by the fact that I am not only going to make my video seem even better by experimentation, I am also going to get bet better at these skills as I
go along.

YouTube called Windows Live Movie Maker - Adding Music, again made by mahalodotcom, I did the comparison today, which is the 28th November 2017, my video did not
even come close to the video on YouTube, because of the fact that I don’t have any sound effects and my narration wasn’t filmed with a microphone.

Music / Narration / Sound effects evidence
Before After
In version one of my video, the music had just the right volume and sound to match my voice, but at the very end of the video, someone started singing in the music, and you
couldn’t hear my voice talking. And I am sure that the viewer would not be able to concentrate. So I changed the music into one where there wasn’t any singing inside. The only
downside to the new music is that there are drum beats inside, so I have to turn it down a lot for the viewer to hear my voice. For the narration, I just talked into my camera which
was filming the computer screen, so I have to make sure that everything in the room was quiet. And that I have to find music that isn’t that loud so the viewer can hear my voice
correctly. I do not have any sound effects in my video because I deleted them alongside with the old captions.
Before I improved my video to version two. I wold give myself a grade 4+ on adding music and sound effects, because I wasn’t that good at these skills yet, but now that I have
done more research, I give myself a grade 3+, which means that I have some knowledge about adding music, narration and sound effects, but I still need to put in a lot of hard work
to improve it.

I did this by doing a lot of research online and searching specifically for camera shots and angles YouTube tutorials. I have added a few camera shots and angles into my video. It was hard because the majority of our group video is a virtual recording, so I had to film a video of myself talking to the audience, because I thought that just virtual recordings would drive the target audience away because they might find it boring. The recording of myself has a eye level view and is a medium shot. Areas I need to develop I need to develop the amount of camera shots and angles in my video. For now there is only one kind of camera shot and one camera angle in the whole video. So I changed it to the one below. I graded myself a 4+ here because I wasn’t very good at camera shots and angles. I changed the dull looking eye level camera view to a oblique/canted angle to make it a more unique looking scene for the viewers. Moving the main focus of the photo to one of the corners of the picture makes the image more soothing to the eye of the viewer, and that is one of the things we want for our video, to attract more viewers and to stop viewers from leaving because of the quality of the video. Areas I need to develop Again, I need to add more scenes in my video where it is me talking to the camera, seeing that all the other parts in our entire video are virtual recordings except for one part of my video, if I want to show of how I have improved during this time, I am going to have to film a lot more shots using the skill of rule pf thirds. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target I am going to film more recordings of myself talking to the camera, and also use more rule of thirds in those recordings. The reason this target is justified is because again, in the brief it says that we should show of a range of skills that we learnt throughout the course to the target audience who are year 9s coming up to year 10. Generally year 9s would not have enough attention to last an entire 12 minute video of a recording of a screen. So a few more recordings of someone speaking might catch their attention and they would watch the entire video. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before the 2nd of may, the day where we learnt about camera shots and angles and the rule of thirds, I did not know what the rule of thirds were at all, so I graded myself a 5, which means I did not know anything about the rule of thirds. Halfway through the course, I found myself getting use to the skill of using the rule of thirds for taking pictures and videos, so I would have graded myself a 4+. But now, having finished my video and done my improvements, I would say that I am a grade 3+, which means I know this skill and I still need to improve on it a lot. If today, the 28th November, 2017, I compared my video to a professionally made video called The Rule Of Thirds, it was published on to YouTube by WeeklyImogen, tis is a video teaching you how to use the skill of the rule of thirds. I only compared the use of the rule of thirds, I think the video on YouTube is a lot better due to the fact that it has a lot more usage of the rule of thirds. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Rule of thirds evidence This shot was in the first version of my video, it looks like that because I put the Sepia visual effect on it to make it look like an old documentary tape, but I thought I was a bit too far to the left of the screen. I thought the viewers might be put off the video a bit because of that mistake. Here, I graded myself a 4-, because I wasn’t vary good at this skill yet. Before After This is the same shot but in version two of my part of the video. The things I changed about this shot were: I got rid of the visual effects to make this shot the same with my groups house style. The major change about this shot though, is that I zoomed into the video with a software called iMovie, and then I moved myself closer to the centre of the screen. I grade myself a 3+, because I think I know a few things about rule of thirds and still can improve a lot. I also tried to make every person that is in my video slightly off centre to the screen, this will make my part of the video more soothing to the eye for the viewers.

Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Skill (s) 2nd of May 2017 Skill (Captions) Description of Strengths Write quality judgements about strengths. We first learnt about captioning when it was the 2nd of May. To add captions is to add a description of something in the video usually in the side of the screen. The caption may be for instructions for the viewer, a social media link or just a reminder of something the video maker forgot to mention while filming the video. I originally added a few captions into my video, but the font type was not the agreed font type, the way the captions came out in the video was also not how they appeared in the other parts of the video. So after the feedback lesson we did, I changed the font type to the agreed one and also the way the captions appeared on the video. Areas I need to develop I think I still need to add some more captions into my part of the video. In the other two parts of the video that my group mates have made, they have added a lot more captions then I have, and the brief states that I need to show off the skills I have learnt in the course inside my final video. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target The target I will have to reach is to add more captions in my part of the video, including some social media links e.g. the Hove Park School Twitter page or the Hove Park School newsletter, and just some overall information that I may have forgotten to tell the viewer when I made the video or was to quiet when saying it. The reason why I have chosen to improve with this target is to make the video as clear to the audience (who are year nines coming up to the upper school as year tens) as possible. Because if a Logo Photoshop tutorial is not clear about the steps you need to take to make a logo, it would not help at all for people who want to make a logo in Photoshop. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before we started learning about adding captions, I did not really know anything about this skill, so I gave myself a grade 4-. In the middle of the course, I had leant how to add captions in movie maker and had experimented a lot on other soft wares such as iMovie on an apple computer, I gave myself a grade 3+, which means that I know some things about this skill but still had a lot of space for improvements. Now, I have finished making my video and done my improvements, I would give myself a grade 2-, which means I know a lot about adding captions but there is just a few more improvements I will be able to make. I compared my part of the video to a professionally made video on YouTube today (which is the 28th of November 2017), which was called Adding Titles, Captions, and Credits - Windows Live Movie Maker it was published by Windows themselves, and I think my video is on the same level if I only compared the captions of the two videos. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Captions evidence Before After Before Before After After These are some examples of the changes I made between version one of my video and version two of my video for the captions. In version one, the font was just the default font that was given to you when you use a text box. It was said to be to simple and not the same house style as the rest of the video in our classes feedback session. After that I changed the font to the agreed font called “PayBack” witch matches the house style and would look more interesting to the viewers. I also added a lot more captions due to the fact that my voice was not that clear in the video and I thought the viewers might not hear me well enough. Below are some more examples of the captions I changed. I grade myself a 2 for captions because I think I am quite good at adding captions and I only have a little more room for improvement.

Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Skill (s) 2nd of May 2017 Skill (Visual effects) Description of Strengths Write quality judgements about strengths. A visual effect is added into the video after it is filmed. There are a lot of different kinds of visual effects, in my version one of the video, I put in a visual effect that made the video look like an old tape playing. I had to remove that visual effect because it did not match the house style of our groups video. Usually when you use a visual effect it is to make the video fit in to the genre of your theme, our goal for our video is to make it a documentary themed Hove Park Logo Photoshop tutorial, so that’s why I added the visual effect that makes the video seem old, to make it look like an old documentary. Areas I need to develop Like I said I had to remove the first visual effect I added in the first version of my video. So I will have to discuss with the people on my group about adding more visual effects to our video to stop it from looking too bland. If I don’t manage to put any visual effects in, the video, would not meet the success criteria because it states that I need to show off the range of skills I learnt within the course. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target The target to improve this skill is for me to practice using visual effects on movie maker until I get the effect that I find is perfect for our video, then I am going to discuss with my group members about adding that visual effect into our video. If I get good at adding visual effects into their suitable places, I will be able to use that skill to add more visual effects into our video, again, in the brief it says that we should try to show off the skills we learnt during the course as much as possible. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before I started to learn about visual effects in the 2nd of May, the only experience I had with this skill was from messing around with it on windows movie maker, so I gave myself a grade 5+, which means I knew very little to nothing about this skill. In the middle of this course, I gave myself a grade 3- because I added a few visual effects to version one to my video, which I later took out because it was not the agreed house style. Now, I have finished version two of my video after I received critical feedback from the whole class, I give myself a grade 2+ for visual effects, a grade 2+ means that I already know a let about this skill and there is still some space for improvements. I compared the visual effects of my part of the video to a professionally made video on YouTube today, the 28th November 2017, called Windows Live Movie Maker - Adding Effects and made by a channel called mahalodotcom, this video teaches you how to use basic transitions and inside the video, there is also a lot of usage of transitions you can see in movie maker. The video from is much better because I don’t have any visual effects in my video. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Visual effects evidence In version one of my part of the video, I put the visual effect “Sepia” into the part of my video where I talk to the camera. I did that to make the video seem more like an old documentary, because our video theme is a documentary. When we viewed our videos I was told that the sepia visual effect did not match the house style of our whole video. So, I had to delete these visual effect and now my video does not have any visual effects, which is something I hope to improve in the future. I do not really consider this as an improvement, because I removed the only visual effects I had in my part of the video, but is was to match the house style of our video. I grade myself a grade 3 for visual effects because I think I am still not very good at this skill and I have to work harder to improve it. Before After These are just some examples in my experimentation to find a new visual effect, but I eventually just stopped and decided not use a visual effect.

Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Skill (s) 17th of May 2017 Skill (Slow and fast motion) Description of Strengths Write quality judgements about strengths. Slow motions is an effect that slows down the video to the chosen amount of speed, it is usually done to create a dramatic effect in movies and other videos. Fast motion, is used to speed up a video at the chosen speed, it is usually used to speed up a part of the video that the editor might think the viewer would find boring e.g. walking a long distance or going up stairs. I have not got any slow motion bits in my part of the video, but in the title bit and the little outro I have got, it is sped up by x1.5. I thought it would be nice to have a bit of an intro with me filming myself walking into school, the little outro I have is of me walking out of the school, I did this because the next part of the video made by Scott starts off with a picture of the front of the school, and it would connect to his part well. Areas I need to develop One area I want to develop is to add a slow motion sequence to my part of the video, but it is going to be quite hard since most of my part is a recording of screen, so I think I am going to have to film a few more scenes so I can use slow motion. The goal is to put both slow and fast motion into our videos, so it would not meet the brief if I only put in fast motion. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target My target to improve this skill is to film more videos for me to experiment with, the more I experiment with slow and fast motion, the better I get at this skill and the better I can make my video to have all the skills I learnt in the course. I chose this target to do because I need to improve on my slow and fast motion to find out how to add a slow motion sequence into my video. I want to add a slow motion sequence because the brief says to show off the skills you learnt during the course. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before I started learning about slow and fast motion on the 17th of May, I already knew a few things about them. I compared this with a video on YouTube called Windows Live Movie Maker - Use Slow Motion And Speed up Effect, it was published onto YouTube by Jshawnotutorials Jones, my video would be a bit behind due to the fact that I do not have any slow motion inside my part of the video and in the tutorial he shows off a lot of videos he has made in movie maker with both slow and fast motion. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Slow / fast motion evidence In version one of my part of the video, the small intro bit was too quick for everyone who viewed our video. At the time it was at the speed of x1, and the viewer could not read the title correctly because the speed was too fast. In version two of my part of the video however, I changed the speed to x0.5. This makes the video slower and the text easier to read for the viewers. I only did this to the intro bit of my video, and the outro bit, otherwise the video would take to much of a long time to play. This happened to the outro bit as well, even though that in the first version of the video there was no text in the outro, my classmates still said that it was still too fast and that I should add text to it as well. So I did, I changed the sped to 0.5 so that it did not go that fast and the audience could read what I said. I grade myself a grade 3- in slow and fast motion only because I used it in my video.

Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Skill (s) 2nd of May 2017 Skill (Transitions) Description of Strengths Write quality judgements about strengths. Transitions are a very important part of a video, as they are used to move from one scene of the video to another, so it is crucial where you put the transition and the timing of the transition must be exact as well, otherwise parts of your video would be cut off by the length of the transitions. If done correctly, the transitions can make a video look very professional. I have a few transitions in my video, but because of timing issues, I cannot add in to many transitions otherwise I would have a very short and messy video. Areas I need to develop I need to find a way to add more transitions in, because now, there are only two transitions at the very start and the very end of my part of the video. I need to find a way to add more into my video without cutting any essential bits out. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target I will just have to practice even more on movie maker to get good at adding transitions in videos so that they do not cause the video to get all messed up like they did before, maybe even film more bits for myself to use transitions on to show off my range of knowledge for transitions. The reason why I have chosen this target is so that can fix my part of the video. I do not want the viewers to think that the video was put together poorly, so I am going to improve the skill of adding transitions and then improve my part of the video. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before we started learning about adding transitions on the second of may, I did not really know a lot about this skill, so I gave myself a grade 4-. In the middle of the course, I had leant how to add captions in movie maker, I gave myself a grade 3+, which means that I know some things about this skill but still had a lot of space for improvements. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Transition evidence For the first improvement, this is the transition between the intro of my part of the video, and the part where I talk to the camera. I personally don’t really like the first transition. It was also mentioned in the feedback session that the transition did not look very good inside my video. So I changed it to the fade into black transition, not only does the fade into black transition looks very nice in my video, it also matches our group’s house style. I did the same thing with the outro, except that the starting transition was the fade out to black transition, it took too long and the video was cut because of that. So I changed the transition into a blur. I grade myself a 3 for transitions because I still think that I need to strengthen my skills a lot before I can give myself a higher grade.

Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Skill (s) 2nd of May 2017 Skill (Adding music / narration / sound effects) Description of Strengths Write quality judgements about strengths. Adding music was one of the first things I did after I filmed my video, although I had to change the music after the feedback lesson because it was pointed out that there was a part where a man sings in the video and it cover my voice. For a narration I spoke into my camera’s microphone as I recorded, so I did not use a proper microphone to record the narration. For sound effects I added a cork opening sound every time a caption popped up, but as I changed the captions and the way they appeared, I deleted the sound effects alongside. Areas I need to develop I need to record a proper narration for my video, because the narration I have got now might be too quiet for the target audience to hear, but if I manage to turn the volume up a bit more, I would not need to do that. The second area I need o develop would be the sound effects, I really need to add sound effects to my part of the video, because now, I do not have any inside since I deleted them when I changed the captions. Target to improve this skill Justifying why you have chosen this target My target to improve these skills would be to experiment with adding different music to the video and seeing if they fit or match the video. For the sound effects I am going to see if there are any sound effects on Sound Bible that I can put into my part of the video. I need to put them in, otherwise I won’ be able to meet the brief because I don’t have any sound effects in my video so far. I think this target is justified by the fact that I am not only going to make my video seem even better by experimentation, I am also going to get bet better at these skills as I go along. Evaluate progress you have made on this skill and future actions to be taken in this area. Before I started learning about these skills on the 2nd of May, I already knew a few things about them. I gave myself a grade 3- for adding music, which means I knew some things about this skill, a grade 4- for narration and a grade 4+ for adding sound effects. In the middle of the course, I made my first version of the video, and I gave myself a grade 2- for these skills, which means I knew a lot about these three skills but there was still room for me improve on them, but now that I have made the second version of the video with the improvements made, I give myself a grade 2+ for all these skills. I compared the music sound effects and narration to a professionally made video on YouTube called Windows Live Movie Maker - Adding Music, again made by mahalodotcom, I did the comparison today, which is the 28th November 2017, my video did not even come close to the video on YouTube, because of the fact that I don’t have any sound effects and my narration wasn’t filmed with a microphone. Centre Number: 56830_Luc-JohnRaubenheimer_Candidate number: 3304 Music / Narration / Sound effects evidence Before After In version one of my video, the music had just the right volume and sound to match my voice, but at the very end of the video, someone started singing in the music, and you couldn’t hear my voice talking. And I am sure that the viewer would not be able to concentrate. So I changed the music into one where there wasn’t any singing inside. The only downside to the new music is that there are drum beats inside, so I have to turn it down a lot for the viewer to hear my voice. For the narration, I just talked into my camera which was filming the computer screen, so I have to make sure that everything in the room was quiet. And that I have to find music that isn’t that loud so the viewer can hear my voice correctly. I do not have any sound effects in my video because I deleted them alongside with the old captions. Before I improved my video to version two. I wold give myself a grade 4+ on adding music and sound effects, because I wasn’t that good at these skills yet, but now that I have done more research, I give myself a grade 3+, which means that I have some knowledge about adding music, narration and sound effects, but I still need to put in a lot of hard work to improve it.
