The MIT Libraries conducted a slide weeding project on a collection of 380,000 slides, focusing on visual arts and the built environment, with significant criteria established for retaining and discarding items. Over the project phases from 2011 to 2012, approximately one-third of the collection was retained after a thorough evaluation based on quality, relevance, and documentation rights. Key lessons included the necessity of specific criteria, faculty involvement, and documentation of the weeding process.
